  • Not That Kind of Girl
    • Rated 0 stars

When Roxanne Bloom's last relationship crashed and burned, she responded by starting a man-hating website and adopting a slightly psychotic dog. She's angry, she's bitter and it's all she can do to protect herself from any more heartbreak. Roxie is also avoiding Eli Gallagher, a dog whisperer who managed to get under her skin. The sexual chemistry between them scares her senseless. But when she has to prove that her dog can be rehabilitated, the only person she can turn to is Eli. Only Roxanne didn't realize that Eli was also rehabilitating her so she can regain her strength and courage.

Eli is a patient hero, but he's also strong and protective. He wants Roxie to feel safe, happy and find peace. There's a lot of focus on Roxanne moving forward in the story but Not That Kind of Girl also has a strong theme about friendship. The friends play such an important part in the book that I really wish I had read the other books in this series before I had read this final installment in the trilogy.

  • Into the Night
    • Rated 0 stars

Tess and Derek meet while trapped in a broken elevator. This inconvenience is actually a much needed break for Derek, a very wealthy man who has been working nonstop for years after a bad relationship. For Tess, a hard-working horse trainer, this is a pause on her way to a party where she thinks her boss might propose. Her practical nature knows she should accept, but her instincts say otherwise.

While stuck in the elevator, Derek and Tess decide to run away from their everyday life and explore the immediate attraction between them. They go to a tropical paradise and indulge in a no-strings attached fling for a long weekend.

As much as they try to keep the relationship light, the weekend changes them. Derek knows he can't go back to his life that doesn't allow anything but work, and Tess is willing to take risks in her life and dream a little bigger. But she knows better than to think this affair can last once they leave paradise. Their lives are too different. Derek, however, is determined to prove her wrong.

Into the Night is pure fantasy. Who wouldn't want to be whisked off to a private island by a rich, gorgeous man? A man who will give you anything you ask for, a man who wants to make all your dreams come true. This steamy love story is a great escape after a rough day.

  • She Who Dares, Wins
    • Rated 0 stars

Katie's assignment is to protect a science professor and investigate the threats on his life. When she's late to meet the professor, she meets Mac and does something completely out of character -- has a one-night stand. Mac totally rocks her world and while she doesn't regret the experience, she knows she has to focus on her assignment. She finally meets the professor she must guard and discovers Dr. Macon Douglas is Mac, her one-night stand.

Mac wants to continue what they've started, but Katie is all about the job and she just broke the cardinal rule -- never sleep with a client. Mac is very persuasive and Katie takes the chance to enjoy a wild fling with him. But can this tough woman risk trusting and loving Mac?

I think the female bodyguard storylines are always sexy. She Who Dares, Wins by Candace Havens has a strong mystery mingled in with the hot romance.

  • Giselle's Choice (Harlequin Presents)
    • Rated 0 stars

Saul and Giselle are deeply in love and happily married. They don't plan to have children, mainly because of Saul's upbringing. Giselle never wants to get pregnant, and is actually afraid to because of her past, but she has hidden the full reason from Saul. She doesn't there will be a reason to reveal her secret. Then a family tragedy strikes and Saul must ascend the throne.

Saul doesn't want to be king but it's his duty. He knows he can't do it without Giselle at his side. Giselle doesn't think she can fulfill her royal duty of producing an heir. And then Giselle must face her deepest fears when she discovers she's pregnant.

Giselle's Choice is an unusual Harlequin Presents story. First, the couple is deeply in love from the beginning of the story but their marriage is tested once Saul takes the throne. Also, I didn't know that this was the second part of a duet and that Giselle and Saul's story began in The Reluctant Surrender. This book can stand alone. Reading the first book might enhance the second story, but it's not necessary to read it or read it in order.

Second Time Lucky is a hot and breezy romance celebrating the escapism of spring break.

  • Lead Me On
    • Rated 0 stars

Jane Morgan is ashamed of her wild teen years, so much so that she transformed herself into a prim and proper woman. She changed everything about her -- her name, her behavior, and she tried to sever her connections with her past. But as much as she tried dating respectable and professional men, she longed for big, tattooed guys. Inappropriate guys. Guys like William Chase.

Jane only wants a one-night stand with Chase. The sex is amazing, but she can't let her image slide. She dumps Chase and then her world spirals out of control when her brother is suspected of murder.

Determined to find the truth, Jane returns to her old haunts and the life she turned her back on. She tries to hide her connection with the case, but Chase can help her. He gradually learns that Jane is anything but the conservative image she projects. The more he gets to know the real Jane, the more he can't stay away.

Lead Me On by Victoria Dahl was a great read. I adored Chase who was a mix of patience and dangerous edge. He understood Jane and offered unconditional acceptance. I also thought that Jane was a very interesting heroine. She was a bad girl desperate to be respected and valued. The journey to take a hard look at herself and stop running from her past was fascinating.

  • The Guy Next Door
    • Rated 0 stars

The theme for this contemporary romance anthology is about having a spring-fling with the guy next door. Each author approached the theme differently.

I adore Lori Foster's heroes. They are alpha, protective and place family first, just like what Jett does in "Ready, Set, Jett." Natalie and Jett are neighbors and are already enjoying a no-strings attached fling. Jett has a dangerous edge, but he's also very loving and patient. He wants more from Natalie, even if it means pushing the boundaries in the bedroom or inviting himself to go along with her on her spring vacation, he'll do whatever it takes for Natalie to share more of her life with him.

Susan Donovan uses one of my favorite storylines in "Gail's Gone Wild." Gail is a single mother who is spending spring break in Key West chaperoning two teenagers. She's been all work and no play and hoped to get a little rest and relaxation. When she meets Jesse, the guy next door who looks as disreputable as a pirate, her vacation itinerary takes a detour as he becomes her guide to taking a walk on the wild side.

"Just One Taste" by Victoria Dahl is a sexy story about a hot one-night stand. Beth and Eric have exhibition booths next to each other at a business convention. They share an instant attraction, but Beth is the manager for an erotic boutique and is not as adventurous as one would assume. She has a thing for preppy guys, but having a fling with someone like Eric would totally ruin her reputation. A one-night stand, however, will allow her to explore her secret fantasies.

All of these stories are very sexy romances. Lori Foster's novella is an introduction to her upcoming trilogy and Susan Donovan's novella is a stand-alone. Victoria Dahl's story, however, does not have a resolution. It turns out that you need to read her upcoming trilogy to find out what happens next.

  • Nothing But Trouble
    • Rated 0 stars

Hockey superstar Mark Bressler is recovering from a career-ending accident and has a tendency to scare off every home health care worker his team sends. The last one held out for an hour. So when Chelsea Ross shows up with her mismatched hair, dented car and ridiculous clothes, he figures she'll break the record.

But Chelsea doesn't scare easily. A former personal assistant to Hollywood celebrities and an actress who was usually the first bimbo to get axed in horror films, Chelsea's a lot tougher than she looks. And she's willing to put up with a lot for the financial bonus the team was willing to pay if she held out for a few months.

Mark and Chelsea can't stand each other at first sight, but what they really hate is how their dreams have crashed and burned. They're stuck together… if they don't kill each other first. And even though Mark swears he doesn't find Chelsea attractive, and Chelsea declares she's relieved by Mark's disinterest, it's only a matter of time before they fall in bed and fall for each other.

  • In Christofides' Keeping
    • Rated 0 stars

Two years ago Gypsy and Rico had a one-night stand. The night was magical, but Rico, feeling vulnerable at how Gypsy had smashed through his defenses, skipped out the next morning. He didn't know that he had left Gypsy pregnant.

Immediately after their night of passion, Gypsy had discovered that Rico was the fearsome tycoon Rico Christofides. She had seen in the news how ruthless he had handled a paternity claim, and she had heard how Rico easily destroyed powerful men. When she discovered she was pregnant, Gypsy chose not to inform Rico in order to protect her child. But she would pay for that decision the moment Rico sees her again.

Rico can't forgive Gypsy for keeping him out of the child's life, and she can't trust a dominating man who was in control of her situation and who could effortlessly seduce her. Much of their fears and prejudices stem from their childhood experiences, but gradually their mutual mistrust disappears as they fiercely protect and love each other.

In Christofides' Keeping is a powerful and sensual love story.

  • THE MIDWIFE'S MARRIAGE PROPOSAL (MEDICAL ROMANCE)
    • Rated 0 stars

Sally, deciding that she stayed away long enough, has returned home after seven years. She misses her friends and she's ready to face Tom, the man who broke her heart. She knows it's going to be difficult to see him again, but she didn't expect the chemistry between them to still run as hot. Sally is a midwife and now works alongside Tom who is an obstetrician. She's constantly reminded of why she fell in love with him in the first place. But Sally has to be on guard. She once trusted Tom and held nothing back only to be rejected.

Seven years ago, Tom broke up with Sally because she had been so young and needed to find her confidence and her place in the world. He believed Sally, who had been raised in foster homes, wasn't really in love with him as much as she was searching for stability and security. Tom knows he made a mistake and regrets letting her go but now he has a second chance. He's determined to regain her trust, but Sally isn't willing to take that risk.

This romance has everything I want in a story by Sarah Morgan: medical drama, mountain rescues, a tight-knit community, a strong and capable heroine, a sexy and arrogant hero, and hot sexual chemistry. The Midwife's Marriage Proposal is March 2005 Harlequin Medical Romance.
