Just sent you an email. Thanks for the reply.
I am wondering about using Shelfari for students within a new small school (200 9th graders 100 10th graders). I am a teacher librarian. English teachers will require students to read 20 minutes per day. Like you, I would like to have a way for students to interact about their books and to keep track of what they have read. Computer access should not be a problem. What problems did you have? What tips could you give me? Do you believe it is feasible to start with all 300 students setting up accounts or better to start with a small group? I listened to the Teachers Teaching Teachers podcast from last summer.I will contact my district instructional technologist for some advice as well. I viewed your group and see that you have 24 members. Thank you in advance for any advice.
Hi, I'm new here. How was Time and Again? It sounds like an interesting read.
I just wonder if students would feel as free to be honest f there postings were public or would a certain tone get set that students would then organically conform to?
I think you're right. There could be an internal advisory group and then there could be designated times that groups connect to the whole. It would be interesting to look at what the differences/similarities would be within or across grades or even advisories and whether advisories begin to develop reading personas-like we are the sci fi advisory.
This is fun, but it makes me realize that I have not read much "for me" in a awhile. If this service had educational journals, I would fill the shelves ;-)
