You get it. It is very hard but the end itself is peaceful. I stayed with Mike the whole way and it was tough but I'm glad I did it. I hope you won't have to make this type of decision for many many moons.

"That" being loss, of course. I am sleep deprived, obviously, or I would be writing more clearly. Sorry.

You did not reply but no hard feelings. Most conversations on Shelfari are in slow motion anyway. And you worked out how to follow/friend just fine, thanks. I am terribly sorry about your cat-I had to put one down in February and you know how hard that can be.

Susan: Welcome to the Paging All Bookworms! Reading Challenge. Looking forward to talking books with you. BTW I am sending you a friend/follow request-the coincidence of us both owning (or being owned by) nine cats & our strong beliefs about spaying/neutering makes me think we would get along. Have a great day!

    You're welcome!

Only 3 of her books are Minnesota based. Night Sins, Guilty As Sin (which I found a very clever sequel) and then Still Waters. I don't think there's any cross-over between them though, besides maybe a case of name-dropping somewhere. But she's done that with her Louisiana based ones.

Her geographical settings have always been pretty evocative for me, and I like that she changes that up as well, it gives it a fresh aspect each time.

If you're burned out on romance, I'd avoid Magic and Sarah's Sin, both are more romance more than anything else. Lucky's Lady also leans towards that a lot, but is set in her same Louisiana world (with characters you come across through passing mention in The Thin Dark Line and Cry Wolf) and has more going on. Both of the latter two are romantic suspense books, as are Still Waters and Dark Paradise (both of those exist in their own geographical worlds, Minnesota and Montana respectively).

Ashes To Ashes, Dust To Dust and Prior Bad Acts are all thriller/suspense without the romance. They also feature the same cop duo too. Dark Horse and The Alibi Man are both also thriller/suspense without the romance, and set in the equestrian world down in Florida. Kill The Messenger is also one without the romance.

I saw you ask whether or not you should read any Tami Hoag. I would say yes, but then that doesn't necessarily help much, haha.

Besides her early start as a romance novelist, her earlier thrillers also have a romantic plot running through them that show you where her roots lie. The later ones, starting with say Ashes To Ashes lean more towards just cop/thriller with no or way less of a romantic subplot in them.

I've always found them highly entertaining regardless, they're well thought out, and she paces her novels well.

I'm just entering into part 3 where Judy has just been murdered.

So far though I couldn't agree more, it has been a major disappointment. I was honestly looking forward to reading this when I picked it up at a little book shop, but for the man who brought us Stepford Wives and the original Rosemary this so far seems to be a very deliberate cash in on a book people must have been begging him for and he has complied with a very obvious and basic story.
