I love reading and the English language. I have a bachelor's degree in English Literature but am shamefully under read and trying to remedy this. I love libraries and everything they provide to a community - the novelty of being able to read literature and share ideas without cost! - and I'm working on getting my master's degree in Library &... more »

This book is dry like dirt and doom. We had to read it for our Organization of Information class and even the teacher told us "Read this book during the day, with coffee." Found the information extremely technical - important but boring. Don't read this one unless you have to.

Ursula Le Guin has this wonderful ability to express one striking, vivid emotion succinctly in her emotions, or evoke a situation so entirely that the reader cannot help but understand what she meant. Love.

This was a fun, engaging novel with plenty of smoldering. I'd probably work on the romance a bit - felt somewhat haphazard - but overall very entertaining. As usual, there was not quite enough traveling for my taste, but alas.

This is certainly a young adult novel, but it grapples with very real issues that many teenagers are forced to deal with. The writing is at once thoughtful and youthfully belligerent. Wonderful. I especially appreciated the Buddhist undertones in the main character's reasoning.

  • An Heiress at Heart (Love's Grace)

Historical romance novels with dated ideas of romance? This was tiresome. The story was entertaining to a point, but half the fun of a romance novel is the moment(s) when the hero and heroine give into their mutual desire. That never happens here. At one point he - gasp! - kisses her gloved hand. Ugh. Would not suggest this to a friend. Maybe a religious older woman.

Oh god, there are so many dated and entirely, outrageously non-pc parts to this story, but there is also some beautiful imagery and I love how dreamy the main character is. I love how implausible this plot is now. In some ways there is insight into the heroine's mind, and in other ways you can just see her following social mores TO. A. TEE. It's very interesting. Once you get over the block-headed, self-pitying, entirely over-confident ass-of-a-hero, the story is quite engaging.

Winnie the Pooh has spoken to children and adults for generations. Benjamin Hoff used this to his advantage and explains some basic aspects of Taoism with the help of a certain lovable, fluff-brained bear.

Very charming novel and I LOVED that the heroine was not a skinny, waifish nothing of a woman. Curves are absolutely sexy. Downside - literally NO sex scene. There was, but it was vague at best. Exceptionally disappointing and entirely, ridiculously sentimental. Considering that many people read romance novels just for the romantic scenes, I felt a little let down. But charming story.

This is a beautiful, fairytale (like) book printed with blue paper and gold ink. The book itself is stunning and the story within, although moderately didactic, is wonderful and imaginitive and lovely.
