Working on my second year of Professional Writing and Philosophy at York University. The strike is finally over and we're starting second semester in March. I now have two paperweights (novels) sitting on my desk waiting to be shopped around but I just haven't been able to take that leap yet. Working on a new thing which is actually adult non-fiction and pre-teen fiction based on the non-fiction research about different key historical people in my area. Research has been fascinating and it's really neat to see how the community was formed, shaped and transformed.
I've branched out from campus newspaper writing and have managed to get a couple of pieces into other smaller Toronto arts and culture magazines. I also just got three honourable mentions from Writer's Digest's 77th Annual Writing Competition. Two pieces made it to top 100 in Literary Short Fiction and one of my newspaper pieces made top 100 for Best Features Article. So I didn't win any money or publication, but I do have three letters from the editor and three cool certificates now hanging on my wall.
I have an awesome old copy of Wuthering Heights and just found a really old copy of David Copperfield but I'm not putting them on my shelf because I can't show you the cool covers.
