    “A wonderful account of Indian History. Extremely readable, focused on the people and their achievements and misgivings, it is a wonderful way to get quickly acquainted with India's wonderful past. Recommend this book as a One Volume quick read. When choosing multi-volume history, my favorites are A.L.Basham, D.D.Khosambi, Romila Thapar and Nilakanta Sastri.”

    “Of all the novels I have read, I would rate this as the best. It is quite some time since I read this book, but I vividly remember the magic it created around me when I was reading it. I bought this book today, and planning for a second read. I wish I would learn Malayalam--just to read this book in its original form; if in translation it was so good, I can't imagine how intoxicating it would be in Malayalam.”
