Yes, I thought the Lost Steps would be just as good...I am reading a Bengali book at present, you must be knowing Shankar's Swarga, Marta, Paatal...the movies that Satyajit Ray made...those. liking them so far...by the way, where do you stay Subhasree?

seems like someone went book shopping recently - Things fall apart is a great choice. Even portrait in sepia was decent.
No - I thought it was rather formulaic - he was just trying to sell the book because of its sex.
im reading one hundred years of solitude ..though it was not on my list for now... i just felt like reading it again ..id read it a long time ago ....

I just saw 'Lila' added to your reading list. It is one of my favorite books. It has so much clarity in metaphysical thinking. Specially, after Zen... Pirsig seems to have structured his thoughts well around 'Quality'. I love such soul searching trips - they sound so inspiring.
Yes, we do not quite get to know about that civilization apart from the pieces of literature that we can lay our hands on. And definitely much imagination is there, so much more than facts. But somehow, I would love to believe that the women were as enigmatic and charming as they are made out...:)I am so very sorry that I could not get hold of the Lost Steps...I am not reading much now. My MBA semester is coming :( Please do let me know once you have finished the lost steps.

He hasn't written a novel. Only short stories. His best collection is called "Fictions". Or you can do better by picking up his "Collected Fictions" (Complete Short Stories). You won't regret it, I promise :) Make sure you pick up the Andrew Hurley translation (Penguin). Lost Steps? I love Latin American fiction. Just picked up "The Tango Singer" today. Looking forward to reading that.
