This is always a tough question, so I'll start by discussing what I like to read.
I'm a bit of an eclectic reader and don't shy away from reading controversial books and books that may be contrary to what I actually believe; you can't always tell my views by my bookshelf, not to mention the fact that some of the books I've read I had to (a few) and some I read because my kids are reading them. While I love the idea of literary writing, I'm tired of reading dark novels, and most literary novels are dark. I'm not a big genre reader, per se, and don't tend to read things like genre romance, mystery, westerns and rarely scifi (but in high school I read a great deal of scifi, Mary Stuart & Victoria Holt, among many other things.) I do like to read y/a along with my other books, and try to sprinkle some nonfiction in with my other reading.
Reading goes in trends for me. For much of 2012, I had a hard time finding novels I could really get into, so it wasn't my best reading year, although I read about 60 books--just not a lot of book I really loved. I'd like to add Christian novels to what I read, but have had a hard time finding ones I can really sink my teeth into.
I am married, have three kids, ages 12-17, sing in a choir, chauffeur my kids, dabble in music composition, try to stay fit over 50 and am working on staying sane with two teens in the house (an am hoping my eldest goes away to college next year rather than stays at home & commutes, although not too far) :).
I'm happy to find this group, as I hadn't known about it before.
If you're a writer, please don't advertise your writing to me via message--I'll find it on the Shameless Self Promotion group. Just because I've read that kind of book in the past doesn't mean that I still read that kind of book now :).
