Hello Sherry. I'm new here and just looking around. We share a lot of books in common. We have 52 in common, the most in common that I've been able to find. But then, Wow, you've listed over 2,000 books! Amazing. Any way, I thought I'd drop you a line and say Hi. Come check-out my list and drop me a line. Cheers Ray

I've enjoyed all of Wendell Barry's books. In Jayber Crow he lays out his theology and you develop a strong sense of place (for Port Williams) and how one is adopted into the community. He also uses it as an indictiment for much that he sees as what's wrong with modern farming. Enjoy the book, there are great stories in it.

Anyone who has Madeleine L'Engle on her list, along with other children's lit catches my interest. I'm just getting started with Shelfari and imagine there are a lot of fine reads we share.

Hi Sherry, If you like Waiting for Snow in Havana (I did) you may like Cuba Diaries; the story of an American Housewife in Havana. It was very interesting and I liked it a lot. Judy

Isn't it great? Thank goodness for the Internet...if nothing else, it keeps me entertained at work :)

Also, keep up the beautiful artwork; I come from a family of artists, but unfortunately, I was shortchanged a bit on the ability/talent. But I love seeing what other people have made of their gift.

I did enjoy Edgar Sawtelle. I liked the narrative style, unusual plot, the touch of magical realism. But there were also aspects of the book that annoyed me, and the ending was disappointing. Overall, I'd certainly recommend it.

Hi Sherry: I will look forward to hearing what you think about "Giants in the Earth", a book which has also been on my "read list," since purchasing a copy last year at Badlands National Park. Best wishes, Scott

    Sherry,
Just wanted to let you know I found a couple of your watercolor books at our library and have found them interesting and helpful. Also went to the website you had mentioned in one of your reviews and found some really great links -- one to a site that allows you to see figures for practice drawing that you can rotate. I'm also reading Watercolor from the Heart by Barbara Nechis. Trying to understand painting from the inside.
    Regards,
    Sherry

Hi Sherry: It has been a long time since I've heard from you. I trust all is well. Just a quick note to say how much I appreciated your "Disgrace" review. I will be interested to hear what you think of "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas." Any other good reading plans for the summer? Best wishes, Scott

    Hi Sherry!
How are you faring? Hope you're having great vacation in Colorado. Sorry to take so long to get back to you but the struggle of redecorating our house is exhausting!
Did you enjoy your exhibit 1st July?? Have you sold some of your gorgeous paintings?
The review of "Disgrace" has been very helpful for me. I don't think I should read this one right now. Last week we said goodbye to our beloved old dog and we're in the process of bevearement.
Enjoy reading your new books and have an exhilarating weekend!
    Your spanish friend,
    Elisabeth

Hi...Just seeing what you're up to...and to tell you to rush out and get a copy of 'Tkhe Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society'. I haven't enjoyed a book this much in a long time. An interesting interview with Anne Barrows, who finished the book for her aunt, on NPR Tuesday last. Best Regards!

Sherry, what a cool way to do it. I've been cutting out colors from old magazines for days and dividing them up into warms and cools with the intention of eventually doing some sort of mosaic. Are you familiar with Romar Bearden's collages? I really like his work and sort of got inspired to do some collage. I've been working on water color painting and noticed that you have several lovely painting books on your shelf. Do you own them or might I find them at the library? I've found that listening to music often produces images that I want to paint -- do books inspire you? If so which ones?

    Hi Judy,
How is the new Rushdie novel? We just returned from Hawaii. I had planned to read books on the beach but swam and just stared at the beautiful colors of the water instead.

Sherry, you are a Shelfari friend of my husband's. We have a great deal in common. I just retired after 30 years of teaching and am hoping to become an artist -- I've always drawn and painted or done crafts related to these. I love your description of yourself as a lifelong reading omnivore. How could we live without a book in hand, on the bedside table, in the car. I'd love to know how you approached your self-portrait and what you are reading about art, artists, etc. Hope we can be friends too.

My mother is an avid reader. All she ever wants for birthdays or christmas are books books books. Until I found your shelf, I never knew what to get her, but last Christmas I choose for her 10 of your highly rated but not widely read books and they were all a huge success. Not only had she read none of them (incredible), she liked them all. I am now clicking around to choose her birthday present. Thanks!!!!

Hi Sherry, I've just finished a very nice little book on reading that is worth recommending: The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett. A joy.
And did I tell you about Alice Munro's The View from Castle Rock? Another recent read that I enjoyed VERY much. A history of her family with some fiction thrown in - and very impressive, I thought. (It made me think of your family history project. It's on a much grander scale, of course.)
