I've worked around and with books--read, studied, and taught them--for over thirty years. When introduced to this website, I thought it might be a good way to keep in touch with some of my book-loving friends from over the years...members of former book groups, etc...so we can see what we all are reading these days.

I had the good... more »

Have you read Ron White's "Lincoln's Greatest Speech"? It is essentially an exegesis of the 2nd Inaugural Address and one of his most theological speeches.

I've been away for a while--I'd be interested in hearing your take on "Upon the ALtar of the Nation"--the moral history of the Civil War

P.S. ~ It was your review of "Founding Myths," which I just began reading, that caught my attention and led me to your shelf.

Farmington is on the other side of the state. It is about an hour south of St. Louis and a half-hour west of the Mississippi River.

I'm glad you didn't have to contend with Irene. I have a niece who lives and works in Manhattan. She had to evacuate. She went to stay with a friend in the interior of NY.

I'm looking forward to perusing your shelf.

    Hi Steve,

    You have an interesting shelf.

I hope you were not in Irene's path, but if so, I hope that it wasn't as bad as predicted.

    Best wishes,
    HN

If you found Still Alice interesting, you might be intrigued by The Bird House (Simon & Schuster) which the Library Journal called “a great title for book clubs, and especially fans of Lisa Genova’s Still Alice.”

Thanks so much – happy to connect on Shelfari if you’re up for it.

Hi. I joined this site in late 2009 but got busy and forgot all about it. Now I'm trying to catch up my list of all of the books I've read. If you like Christian books, I wrote two in 2010. If you want to check them out, they are, "From Zero to Christian in Just 35 Years" and "Missing Andy: The Journey From Grief to Joy." See you around!

Hi Steve, not to play the salesman but to promote a cause, I guess, but seeing your mutual admiration for the Living Buddha, Living Christ, I thought you'd be interested in a Facebook group I started. Here is the link: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=67275327925

    Thanks,
