I'm 23. I've always been a fairly avid reader even as a child. I mostly enjoy general/women's fiction, children's books, young adult. I like anything where the prose sound and feel lyrical or magical. I especially love Alice Hoffman. I like books that make me think. I was never someone who liked "light, fluffy beach/vacation reads". For me,...more »

The Other Boleyn Girl has been described as historical romance, but I would classify it more as a study of family politics and what the Boleyn women are willing to do to get what they want. I did like the book. Based on your profile, may I suggest The Secret Life of Bees?

It is a book that has unusual twists and turns. That's all I'm saying. Except for it's a good read!

Definitely read My Sister's Keeper. It's heart-wrenching, but well worth the read.

See beginning of message below. Pardon the glitch. Anyway, my point was that it sometimes is difficult to go from one author's style to another's. On my home book shelves I have only those novels that I plan to keep and read again. Shipping News is one of them.

Hope this is not a duplicate (the site did something strange and my first effort disappeared). Re: The Shipping News. Hang on to it. You read Brokeback Mountain and loved it. You may love this one as well at another time. Proulx's prose is unique and sometimes requires a bit of patience but is worth it. I just started Postcards by her and after just finishing No Country for Old Men
