Hi Susan, nice to hear from you again. I am back in CT after my summer at Cape Cod. I liked "The Other Boleyn Girl". What I like about her books is getting the historical perspective in story form so I have enjoyed her books. Haven't read a book in about a month and am trying to decide what to pick up or if I should finish knitting the baby hat for my friends grand first.

I will keep playing with this site. Its nice to see what others are reading and their thoughts.

My friend belongs to a Book club and she let me read "Mr. Emerson's Wife" , Amy Belding Brown. It was very good. I know I'm a little anal, I keep a list of the books I've read by author. That's how I can remember author's I like and can refer when people ask me about books I've enjoyed. Because I have them now by author, all the books in blue fonts are one's I've read in 2009. I know, I know, a little much LOL!!

I am liking it very much but as I said I like Lisa See. Did you get my note about 1000 White women by Jim Fergus. Also I love reading Gail Tsukiyama. Look into her books, she another wonderful story teller. She's a professor somewhere around San Francisco, half Japanese and American, I think. I started with Sumari Gardens, I think I spelled it wrong then went into her other books. Great author.

I'm not sure about book club choice. I don't belong to one so don't know criteria. Would love to keep in touch. I'm still new to shelfari so am trying to figure how to use it. I am in Cape Cod during the summer and CT in the winter. I see you are in MN.
Am currently reading "Shanghai girls" by Lisa See, I love her books. always reading something and if I find I don't like it, back it goes to the library. I'm not in school anymore and don't have to finish it!!! LOL

I think, One thousand White Wives" by Jim Fergus would be a book club choice and I think it had a club questions in the back. Loved that book.

I liked Brooklyn. It was a nice story of a gal who comes from Ireland and makes her way. I think you'd enjoy it based on some of the books you've read and I've read these too.

Hint: It involves a drawing for some gift certificates, and participation is required in order to be eligible for the drawing :-) Come celebrate with us!

Also, we've announced that our summer group read will be Leif Enger's newest book: So Brave, Young and Handsome. I'm reading this book right now and will have the discussion thread up by next week. The thread will be available for discussion this entire summer.

Thanks for the great recommendation I will definetly look that book up! I haven't heard of the pigeon book either. That's why I love this site, I have found some great books I would never have picked up to read, I tend to judge a book by it's cover... I know it's horrible but it's true when it comes to books.

I have heard so many good things about this book, and several people have told me it's their favorite. I've only read a few chapters so far, but I already can tell it will be amazing! Have you read any other Francine Rivers' books? My friend Renee just read The Atonement Child and really enjoyed that one as well

You're funny. I know you aren't the only one who liked it, several people have commented on it over the years and loved it. do try and read Eventide is is also a great book.

One of the main complaints I have heard about Plainsong is the lack of punctuation, but it never bothered me and I didn't notice it until it was pointed out to me.

    Hey Susan,

Thanks for the friend acceptance. If you have some time I would be curious of your opinion on my husband's book. Here is a link to Chapter 1

    http://www.michaelsullivan-author.com/Sample%20Chapter.pdf

It's an action/adventure set in medieval times, it is a fictional world so technically it is fantasy rather than historical, and I know you don't have books of this type on your list - but this really is meant to break the stereotypical fantasy mold and if someone like you likes it that would really tell me something.

Anyway if you don't want to that's cool too. I'm going to go scower your page to find some good things to at to my TBR list.

    Susan,
I loved Rebecca!!! I would definitely recommend it to you. Now I am reading The secret life of bees and I am just a few pages from the end. What a book!!!!
After 5 years in the USA, I am very happy I moved here. Very soon I get depressed because I miss my family (they are all back home), but I can't picture myself moving back anymore. I like here a lot, and I think it would be just perfect if there were beaches closer to me...
    Thanks for your note.

Yep, I am so there! Have you ever met with them? I am planning to catch up with them in November. Hope all is well with you. I am finding that I am sadly lacking in Fall clothes and am in desperate need of a major update! School still going well for A? I'm sure it is!
    Best,
