Rule of Claw and City of Screams are far future based books that deal with the idea that humanity can no longer sustain itself, or at least the older generations. There is so much genetic changes that only the kids are still 'human'. Eventually they find out that they are not the only inteligent creatures on the island.
Lament and Ballad are about a girl who finds out she is a Cloverhand - a person who can see the Fey. She meets a guy who is from Faerie and was sent by the Faerie Queen to destroy her [in Lament]. However he falls in love with her instead and can't kill her. Lament is focused on Deirdre [the main character] finding out about her powers and fighting against the Queen to stay alive and save those she loves. Ballad is more focused on James, Deirdre's best friend. James meets a faerie [Nuala] who feeds off people's creative talent, basically sucking the life out of them. He begins to fall in love with her, but then finds out that on Halloween, Nuala will "burn" and he has to fight against the Queen and the Horned King to save her life. They are both very good books. Yes! Read Only a Duke Will Do! I love it! It's part of a series, but it's pretty self contained and doesn't have to be read in the order of the series. I do, however, recommend you read another of Jeffrie's books, To Pleasure a Prince, first. No one tells you, but it precedes this book and lays a very strong foundation for Only a Duke Will Do. Had I read it first, the entire story would have made so much more sense! To Pleasure a Prince is also a great book!
Mortal Instruments series is based on a world where angels and demons exits, characters are human-demon hybrids, called Downworlders, or human-angel hybrids, called Shadowhunters.The story began 15 years before the first book take place, when a Shadowhunter caused a civil war between two groups of his own.Humans, angels, demons, vampires, warlocks, werewolves, fairies ... all there choose your favourite, lol :)
Very, very good book. Nice ending to the triology. But, by the time you get to the end; you know Gideon is coming back. And he is: "Resurrecting Midnight" .. Just released August 25, 2009. Can't wait to read it!
I just started the audiobook Drood by Dan Simmons. I have about a 45 minute drive each way to works so I do a lot of my reading as audio books. Drood is an historical fiction/murder mystery book about Charles Dickens suspected side into mental illness. It is very dry in places and loaded with Victorian details about daily life. But very interesting and addictive, i just cant stop listening.I usually try to balance my reading by alternating between juvenile novels and adult books. The juvenile book that I just finished was You Wish: The Misadventures of Benjamin Bartholomew Piff. Very cute and entertaining story. Did you know there was a secret war between the Wishworks factory and the Curseworks factory?
