Oh gosh, this is definitely my favourite play (not counting Shakespeare's). We were assigned this in an Honors class and I've never loved anything I've had to read for class more. The characters are, hmm, interesting--to say the least--and it's filled with such memorable quotes as, "I wish I was an octopus. A fuckin' octopus." There's also an amazing movie version with Al Pacino and Emma Thompson--but it's more fun to sit outside in a park with friends and act out the various roles.

I've always heard such great things about this book and it didn't disappoint. It's a wonderful, charming intro to Philosophy and I love how the author even constructs his own philosophy in the end. Indispensable to anyone interested in philosophy!

I know it's about a decade old, but I think this is still Tony Attwood's most comprehensive, easy-to-understand book about Asperger's Syndrome. This is indispensable for anyone interested in the syndrome, anyone who has it, and anyone who works with people with AS. Attwood's writing style is really witty and makes this a fun read, even though it's more of an informational text.

  • A Fractured Mind: My Life with Multiple Personality Disorder

Well-written memoir of a prominent Asian expert with Dissociative Identity Disorder (Multiple Personality Disorder) who, at one point, had eleven personalities. It clearly shows his struggle with that disorder as well as its benefits. For anyone interested in DID, it's a must-read.

Incredible portrayal of bipolar disorder, from the point of view of a prominent bipolar expert. Dr. Jamison writes in a poetical, literary way easy for people unfamiliar with bipolar and other psychological terms to understand. It's also a touching story, providing a very human take on manic-depression.
