I am Anol Bhattacharya, Indian citizen living and working in Singapore. Reading is not my hobby, it's part of my life. Shelf here is only one-third of what I've read so far, 'cause many of books I read are in my mother language, Bengali.

I am passionate about harnessing the power of internet as an enabler, connecting people and ideas... more »

    THanx for the link.
I visited urdupoetry.com. Like our moods , our tastes keep chnging. Around 15 years ago , I used to be terribly interested in hindi litt. but not thse days as I read a lot at that time./in fact the contemporay hindi writer is very urban and relevant.

It seems to me that there are a lot of novels written in English by Singaporeans. While it's a very commercial place -- not friendly to the arts, perhaps -- it does seem to breed novelists!

Hi. I noticed plenty of plays in your collection. Shakespeare? Did you happened to catch McKellen's King Lear and Seagull production at the Esplanade. I enjoyed it tremendously. Actual tears. Plenty of them.. Hahaha..

There's plenty of business books on your shelf that I've read. Although I must admit that the last five years or more, I've read very few. I simply couldn't find anything interesting. This is not just a coincidence or just specific to myself, I think. I believe that there's a period, almost ten years ago that's the height of management guru era. It was post-Drucker, post-Handy era. There were Tom Peters, Michael Porter, Warren Bennis, Kenichi Ohmae, Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Peter Senge, some Japanese writers, and the lot. Plenty of Harvard BS stuff. But afterwards, it kind of fizzled, don't you think? Anyways, there were still a handful of books that I read (Kaplan, Jim Collins), but mainly technology, IT or internet related.

Personally, I'm happily stuck in the Drucker era. I seek refuge in his books. I must have read the classic Management, Task etc. cover-to-cover at least 3 times. Drucker-mania.

Incidentally, I'm also in the IT business. Software development company I started about almost 9 years ago. I used to do a software programming too. Not AS/400. More the Microsoft stuff. Not now though. Rusty no doubt.

Well, hope to make your acquaintance. Best regards.

I definitely think joining the Latin America group will be able to help guide to more L.A. literature. In fact, I believe there are one or two discussions on that very topic right now.
Jamaican books and other English speaking Caribbean literature is generally not classified with Latin America (long story) but there is a Caribbean group that you can check out if you are also interested in that region's writing.

Anyway, you're just in time for our first ever group read of English, August. I hope you'll join us. In the meantime, please join an existing discussion or feel free to start a new one.
