I am Anol Bhattacharya, Indian citizen living and working in Singapore. Reading is not my hobby, it's part of my life. Shelf here is only one-third of what I've read so far, 'cause many of books I read are in my mother language, Bengali.

I am passionate about harnessing the power of internet as an enabler, connecting people and ideas... more »

How are U? Not having contact for a long time. What's up? We are going to African jungles on 15 April from Traveller's club; pl. come to the club and book your seat right now and join in the preparation/ packing/ suggesting more sights etc. You know everything is imaginary; but let us have a joint-trip to African Safari.

I highly welcome all my friends who joined this group. U R welcome everyday; I'll try to be here everyday ( with beer mugs!!!!) to wish U good day and to share and exchange with U! But, please don't be a silent visitor; make this club (Adda) yours own territory where U can tell anything ( as 'I think....'), ask anything ,open any discussion, share other's experience, whatever U like.
First of all, let us introduce ourselves as a traveller. I would appreciate an essay on yourself--you as a traveller; your enjoyments, taste and likings, funs U made, some memorable happenings so on and so forth! Please Be innovative; you are the pioneer! print your footsteps here. I'll post my essay shortly!

Even if those are their you will, unless by accident, never be able to find. First you never know if those are in their original names or translators changed those into some names of their choice. Then it is the spelling. Both the book's Title and the authors name. Say for instance Sheershendu Mukhopadhya. You can write a hundred variety of spelling of the same name and there also if it is Mukhopadhya or Mukherjee. Its a mess.

Actually I was thinking about sending a friend request to you. At least sending you a thanks note. I actually picked up lot of Bengali books from your shelf. Yes it is very difficult to get Bengali books in shelfari. Fortunate are those people who can re-construct their childhood through selfari.

yes, selfish gene by Dawkins. It is about social behaviors of whole animal kingdom controlled by gene (chromosomes). Extremely interesting. If U didn't read it, i request U to manage one from library or old book shop and start reading (though I have to go through yr shelf to know yr taste). By the way, have U read a brief history of time by S. Hawkin? I love that book though it is so much involved with higher Physics, I could not conceive everything of it.

I love to go to boi-mela, though now-a days boi-mela crowd are very much unfamiliar to me! Anyway, I can't resist myself buying some books. So, I would be busy reading some 'unplanned' books during March.

The following is an excerpt from the book The Open Brand: When Push Comes to Pull in a Web-Made World by Kelly Mooney and Nita Rollins, Ph.D.
The book comes out in March 2008, so keep it on your radar if you enjoy this excerpt.

    Trust is in the Network

With the power of social networking, infinite online searching and mobile connectedness, consumers now have access to a boisterous bazaar of public opinion. How much is this easy access to the opinions and insights of individuals altering consumers' perceptions of authority? Quite a bit. Their sense of who has authority and who deserves it has changed dramatically.

A 2006 Edelman Study revealed that trust in a "person like me" rose from 20 percent in 2003 to 68 percent in 200 -- an increase of more than 300 percent.

If icitizens are turning to each other for news and views instead of relying on official and traditional sources -- including brands themselves, it's not simply because of the exhilarating access to an unfiltered online community. The growth of trust in a peer network is tied to waning trust in traditional cultural authorities and institutions -- the church and state, educators and, yes, brands and the mass media. Consumers are less trusting because they're jaded by everything from lackluster customer service and brand blandness to a wave of white-collar corruption in the form of the scandals of Enron, Worldcom, Adelphia, Tyco and even Martha Stewart.

As a result, citizens have taken matters into their own hands. They've transformed themselves from passive receivers of information to active retrievers, creators and judges of it. They've become information DIYers. David Altman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Bath & Body Works Direct, said, "Our customer is very tuned in to advice from her trusted friends and family, and though she's checking out magazines and shop-at-home channels, the trend is definitely peer-to-peer. She is interested in what other women like her have to say about beauty."
