I guess I'm new to the world of reading as I only started reading with a passion in October 07. I did read some Anne Rice books as a teenager, but since then nothing. I know that's shameful to admit, not the reading Anne Rice part, but the lack of reading in general. However I am doing my best to make up for the error of my ways now. I'll read anything that doesn't feel like a chore. You know the type of books I'm talking about: too much detail, description, unnecessary exposition, lack of fluidity, I could go on and on, and on, but I'll refrain. I'm almost obsessive compulsive when it comes to finishing a book, even if it is not to my taste, which usually means skimming as quickly as possible though the boring bits. Either that, or I put it aside for months before returning to it with a sigh, and finishing it reluctantly.
For me to enjoy a book it has to have a great story/plot, characters that I can empathise with and care about, romance, tragedy, conflict and resolution. Obviously those elements aren't always present in the one book, but a girl can dream. I hate predictability. I love when I'm kept guessing all the way through to the very end. You can see from my bookshelf I love anything dark and supernatural in origin, but as I'm only starting on my reading odyssey I'm sure my bookcase will reflect my burgeoing tastes in time.
As for me, I'm an Irish girl, born and bred. Have a wicked sense of humour, and never take life too seriously. I would love to have a book published someday. I discovered my aspirations to be an author around the same time I rediscovered the world of literature. With any luck I'll translate the stories in my head (which are many) into words and complete a book someday!
