SMYAL (The Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League) is a non-profit youth center in our nation's capital.

SMYAL supports and empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. Through youth leadership, SMYAL creates opportunities for LGBTQ youth to build self-confidence, develop critical life skills, and engage their peers and community through service and advocacy. Committed to social change, SMYAL builds, sustains and advocates for programs, policies and services that LGBTQ youth need as they grow into adulthood.

As you will probably notice, our library collection focuses on LGBTQ-related works, encompassing a wide range of fiction and non-fiction genres. Housed at our youth center at 410 7th Street, SE in Washington, DC, we welcome all youth -- LGBTQ and allies -- ages 13-21 to come check out our library and borrow any books that they find interesting. Since our collection is almost entirely donation-based, we always welcome new book donations from generous community members!
