  • Wonderstruck
    • Rated 4 stars

Similar in style to wonderfully magical "The Invention of Hugo Cabret", Selznick's artistry with both the word and the pencil are extraordinary. Wonderstruck is an excellent book on its own, but comparisons to Hugo, while unjustified, will occur nonetheless.

However, that will not happen here. Wonderstruck contains two stories, fifty years apart and weaves them together in a beautiful way. I would recommend this book to anyone, young or old, who enjoys great writing and great artwork.

Another fantastic Flavia de Luce!!! How can one not love this precocious 11-year-old crime-solver who is fascinated by the chemical properties of poisons? Oh, and catching Father Christmas!!! Hip, Hip Hooray for the latest Flavia novel!!!

This is one of those books that ropes you in, you don't really like it and yet you find yourself wanting to finish, hoping it will be good in the end. Well, not this one.

A wildly inventive book! Thoroughly enjoyed the writing style and how the author cleverly intertwined the present with the past without skipping a beat. The story was a good one and kept me interested the whole time. The characters are colorful and vividly described. The novel had more than its fair share of twists and turns. Highly recommended

Couldn't finish the book. Hated the characters, hated the style, just didn't like anything about it.

An interesting novel that kept me involved throughout the story. A cautionary tale of the gullibility of people who wish to be duped. The ending was a little weak, but didn't take away from the enjoyability of the novel.

It's hard to like a story when you cannot connect with the protagonist. The choices that the main character makes are all wrong from the beginning and his justifications for it are just ridiculous.

One of the best books I've read this year! Part coming-of-age, part mystery, part thriller, part fairy-tale. Haunting, extremely well-written that kept me interested until the very end wanting for more. Highly recommended!

An astonishing good read by a "murderer's row" of mystery writers. Kept me guessing! Highly recommended!

Not his best Lake District mystery, a little too formulaic, but I'm looking forward to his next one!
