I have heard it said you are what you read. Others say it this way; You can tell a whole lot about a person by what they read.
Even further, some books attempt to tell you who you are. For example, a book on my shelf entitled, 'Please Understand Me II' told me - after taking the test - that I am an idealist-teacher.
And that, my... more »

Reading this book will make you a more beautiful person. I picked it up because I wanted to read something by Mother Teresa, and I have not been disappointed. While she is not a writer, per se, there is LOADS of little tidbits you can take from this and chew on for a while.

Sedaris' collection of essays is a fun, easy read. I appreciate his candid writing style. Laughing at his stories is entertaining, and helps me laugh a little more about my own. =)

Sophie Scholl and the White Rose

    by Jud Newborn, Annette Dumbach
    • Rated 4 stars

This is an accurate historical account of the White Rose resistance movement in Nazi Germany. The memory of the members of the White Rose who lost their lives is commemorated every year at Munich University, which was the center of the White Rose.

This books holds true historically, AND reads like a gripping novel. You might cry reading the account of Hans and Sophie Scholl - I sure did. Allow yourself to be inspired by their bravery and unwavering convictions.

The appendix includes photos and the original text of the seven leaflets distributed all over the Third Reich by the movement. Powerful, powerful story.

I picked up this book a few weeks ago, and it has become a lifesaver. When depressed, read Calvin and Hobbes. You just cannot help but giggle and smile. =) This collection is like therapy.

This is my favorite of the Narnia books. A few summers ago, I re-read the entire set. I was crying as I read this one on the plane to Miami.

The most beautiful part is when Aslan is walking with Shasta in the shadows, telling him his story and how he was there all along. "Child, I am telling you your story, not hers. I tell no one any story but his own."

    Read it, You'll love it.

I think I read this book in one night. A retelling of the story of Hosea the prophet . . . wow. Much more than a love story.

A friend of mine turned this story into a production and I have seen multiple lives changed through the message.

  • How to Be Lovely: The Audrey Hepburn Way of Life
    • Rated 0 stars

This is a great little book I picked up on a whim. I love Audrey Hepburn, and thought it would be a fun one to have on the coffee table. It has proven to be a good buy. Lots of little quotes and snippets of her life.

Once again, a book I bought because everyone was reading it. It's not a bad book, but I did not really feel challenged, enlightened, entertained or brought to a deeper level. Maybe because when I read it, I did not really want to . . . perhaps I should read it again.

  • The Five Love Languages
    • Rated 5 stars

This book has made the question, 'So what's your love language?' Pretty much second or third to, 'What's your name?' and 'What do you do?'

    Read it. Apply it.
