HELP ME, P-L-E-A-S-E, BEFORE I BUY ANOTHER BOOK!!!

What I there to say about myself (that has not already been said about me behind my back)? How would I describe the mess that is me?

I am that rare combination of everything that is wrong in the universe. I am a gregarious misanthrope, a bookish non-reader, a conservative... more »

    Hi!

The Minneapolis-St.Paul-Minnesota Group recently hit 100 members, so we're kicking off a 100-Member Celebration! Details are available on the group site. Hint: It involves a drawing for some gift certificates, and participation is required in order to be eligible for the drawing :-) Come celebrate with us!

Also, we've announced that our summer group read will be Leif Enger's newest book: So Brave, Young and Handsome. I'm reading this book right now and will have the discussion thread up by next week. The thread will be available for discussion this entire summer.

Hi! Just wanted to let you know that we are currently taking nominations for September/October group reads for the Minneapolis-St.Paul-Minnesota group .The books nominated don't have to be by Minnesota authors or have Minnesota ties, but that is preferable. Feel free to nominate any genre and type of book, as long as you think it is interesting and relevant to this group. Nominations will remain open for at least one more week, at which time I will close nominations and we will vote.

There is also a separate thread to discuss how the group want to proceed with group reads in general. Whether or not to do them. How often, etc. Your input on this subject would be very much appreciated also!

I thought as much - you live in Lutheran country. I spent many years working in Outdoor Ministry, as as Secretary of the North Pacific District and the Oregon Synod. Don't worry about what you haven't read - choose well what you do read. Have you ever picked up Steve Leveen's, The Little Guide to Your Well-Read Life? After I read this little treasure, I started keeping a "Bookography" - as I began to give away a lot of my 4-5000 books, I categorized them and keep a running list of everything I've read. This is a great resource that I use often. Many of my books are now in our church library and are easily accessible. Happy reading!

Over my lengthy life I have read many of the books on your shelf....good science fiction and fantasy, C.S. Lewis, children's books are among the best books around. I look forward to checking your shelf from time to time.

Thanks for the add. I was raised on Lovecraft, Orwell, and Robert E. Howard (as well as Heinlein and Asimov).

I also belong to a board known as "Gather" (www.gather.com) where I earn "points" toward a Border's gift card. If I have to go into a bookstore, I leave my wallet in the glove compartment.
