Hi. Thanks for the invite!! I've seen you around, I think on Haley's page and then just recently on Fathom's. I always thought about asking you, cos we have a fair degree of cross interests, not the least of which is the oriental concerns.
Thanks again. Be talking to you .
Hope you see something on my listings that might interest you.

Honestly, it was a little difficult for me to stick with it. It wasn't exactly what I expected, I really wanted to enjoy it. I might re-read it later and have a different opinion, though!

I didn't really like "Eeeee Eee Eeee". I thought I would enjoy it because it is supposed to have talking animals connecting with the main character, but it was just a little too out there and random for me. The events of the book seemed like all random tidbits put together to make a novel, making no real story line. This is just my opinion though, I would recommend maybe picking it up a book store or library and reading a couple pages of it first.

I see you rated "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" highly, which makes me want to read it now. I picked it up from a thrift store a couple months ago and every time I pick a new book to read I always look at it, but haven't read it yet.

nope, don't mind at all. i've got some ideas off your shelf in the past as well^^. i've been going through a bit of an epic drama phase lately though (nothing like edo japan tales to beat the blues!), but i'm itching to get back to some proper contemporary j-lit...

'a rabbit's eyes'...not one of my favourites. for starters, the man is probably a great educator, but he's not a writer. i realised very quickly i'd have to take off my literary cap to read and enjoy this book. the story had its moments, i thought. the premise was interesting and he does get his point across about kids and how to interact with them. but, overall, the book just didn't do it for me. maybe one should look at it not as a piece of fiction, but an educational resource book...? what did you think?

btw, are there any groups here you're enjoying at the moment? i find most of them i sign up to are either dead or not that interesting. as you probably noticed, i deleted the j-lit group as well. talk about dead^^. pity though, cos we did have quite a few members...

    see you around, マリちゃん!^^

girl, we're starting to have so many books in common, it's positively bizarre...drop me a note sometime, if you ever feel like discussing one of them.

Hey I found you through a Murakami group and your icon stuck out because I totally love dwell! I was wondering if you'd suggest which of murakami's books I should read first? I haven't read any yet but I've wanted to for so long! Also, I see you've read a bunch of Banana Yoshimoto and I've just started Hard Boiled and Hard Luck and I am really liking it so far.

Thank you! I have a couple books by Banana Yoshimoto in my "to read" pile, but I don't think I have Amrita. I'm thinking I'll start with either a Samantha Hunt novel or Lucy's Home for Girls .. I've been wanting to read that for awhile. I also saw at work yesterday that Paulo Coehlo has a new book out - Brida - that sounds wonderful! So it's between those three at the moment :)

nice to meet you too. you were on my homepage of "other people with books i have". i've found that most everyone else on that list had over 2,000 books on their shelf, so of course we had books in common, but you had less and i viewed your profile & saw that you were interested in japanese electro, design, magical realism etc which is wonderful!
