I love getting a good recommendation for a book and also love to share what I have read with others. I find it fascinating to find other people that have "Books in Common" with me and to see that they enjoyed the same thing I did...this makes me want to read everything else on their list. I read all types of books but particularly love... more »

What did you think of Loving Frank - personally I loved it. I know the entire book is sort of frustrating and hard to understand why the "characters" did what they did but that is what makes it so real to me - people do things I think most of the time that are not the perfect thing to do or the most thought out. Would love to hear your reviews and what you would recommend I read if you have read something as good in the past that was similar.

[[I was just about to pick up the Historian and noticed you didn't rate it very high...would you skip it?]]

    PJoy,

I have to say that although parts of the book were very good, to me it was overlong and although somewhat scary it wasn't scary enough considering it was a vampire story. If you think we have similar tastes I'd say skip it. A lot of people did like this book, I'm just not one of them.

I'll pick up, "We die Alone" and add it to my long list. In turn if there are any other books in my wish list that you can strike down. Pick up the ax girl. I'd appreciate it. D

PJoy. I'm in! Thanks for the invite. I loved the Lincoln book you're currently reading, one of my favorites from last year. I posted my review behind yours. A couple of comments on your future selects.

Wait Til Next Year. A great title... but kinda predictable fiction. I gave up on it and would be interested in your review if choose to read it.

Thunderstruck was very good, but a bit technical. A few times he was building these huge receivers and I thought to myself, "I bet this contraption looks nothing like the 007 version I have constructed in my head. Thunderstruck is not as strong as his last effort, but still a solid read. If you get caught wanting to set it down during the technical stuff, don't scrap it, just skip forward to the last several chapters when his two parallel stories bend and intersect. Strong finish.

Life of Pi: Engaging. Need to read because everyone else has. A few huge derailing side stories that still anger me (the live island?). the best of Martell is a set of Short Stories called, "Facts Behind Helsinki..." There is a musical story (something? violin) within the group that is one of the most beautiful short stories I've ever read. Compared to Pi, night and day.

Good morning, PJoy. Just wondering why you did not particularly like "Thirteen Moons".
I have not read it, but I did read some reviews, which were mixed. I gather those that did not enjoy it thought it moved too slow -- especially the second half. Your opinion? I loved Cold Mountain!
