Hi, I think I've read all of Neil Gaiman's stuff - have you tried Neverwhere or Stardust? They have quite a different tone to American Gods - Neverwhere has an urban fantasy feel, while Stardust is a fairy tale for adults. They're both very good. Have you read Joe Abercrombie's series? It is dark fantasy, with brilliantly rounded characters and a solid feeling world. It has a thread of the blackest humour running through it - one of the more sympathetic characters is a torturer for the Inquistion - but explores the contrast between the heroes we see ourselves to be, and the way we truly act in order to survive. If you're looking for fast-paced action with intelligence and humour, start with The Blade Itself, the first in the series. Everyone I recommended it to loved it!
