I really hate to say anything negative against another writer, but until I read this book i was fairly respectful of Ms. Roberts. She lost my vote with this one. Alaska has enough misconceptions already, but for her to add to them... I was sadly disappointed. Anyone who lives here can tell she certainly didn't get her atmosphere and facts from the land or people. To do this to a place as special and unique as the Last Frontier is damn near a crime. I haven't found one Alaska resident who liked the book.

I'm fast becoming a Brenda Novak fan. This one kept me reading until the end and only going out to dinner with my guys could tear me away. Even then I was itching to get home and keep reading.

Of Janet's cupcake romances, this is my favorite. When I need a pick me up I grab this one. Set in Alaska, she does a far better job of portraying life in Alaska than some other authors. Then again, she actually lived in the state for a year. Makes a difference. Anyhow, for a pure fun fast read, you can't beat this one.

Rollicking with fun, this book had me laughing out loud. I love the characters and the fun is never ending. I didn't so much like the secondary story of Bodie and the scary woman, but everyone else was a hoot. A keeper for sure.

I keep coming back to this book when I need a feel good pick me up. No sparks flying from their first meeting, love builds slowly as neighbors get to know one another. He has to let go of his divorce. She has to stop checking her checklist of future mates. Kids push them together yet pull them apart... it's real life in the world of more mature dating. Some good laughs too.

A very imaginative follow on from James Fenimore Coopers, The Last of the Mohicans. The story picks up years later with the same characters and builds on the story. It was made even more fun by picturing Daniel Day Lewis in the lead. *sigh*. A nice touch of history and well written.

  • A Husband of her Own (Harlequin Superromance No. 1130)

In general, I'm not a Harlequin fan. But this one could change my mind. The tone is lighthearted and filled with fun as childhood rivals struggle to find balance as adults. I love this book and will be looking for more by Brenda Novak, who is a well-respected romance author.

Books will often make me feel happy or sad, but for a book to actually make me sob or laugh out loud, that says something. This one had precious little laughter, but plenty of warm feelings and it drew from me heart wrenching sobs. I've read it a couple times now and will keep it on hand for those times when I just need a good cry.
