The prose and characters were brilliant, but the story was nothing amazing. So much fun to read though that you barely notice. If another author had written this story it would have been boring. Moore could write abacus instruction manuals and make them entertaining.

I was rather surprised by Gemma. The story is told from two view points and flips back and forth between the two throughout the novel. This is where you really see the strength of Meg's writing. Her characters are so vivid and alive that you know in an instant which viewpoint you're reading. Really the story is one we have probably all heard at some time or another. It's the surprising depth of the characters that make this book great.
