Facebook - I don't but I should. You may inspire me.
I love Janet Evanovich, too! And if you ever get a chance to listen to the Book on Tape recordings (it has to be the unbridged library version), they just add to the enjoyment :-).
People of the Book was a book club selection a couple months ago; I don't know why, but I never got around to finishing it. The rest of the group raved about it. It sounds a little bit like Annie Proulx's Accordion Crimes, which follows the "life" of an accordion from its construction through all its different owners.
Furst writes engaging characters, mostly all between 1935-1945. His settings all seem to involve people in various parts of Europe as WWII engulfs them, and how many of them become involved in intelligence whether they wanted to or not. He has an amazing knowledge of what was going on in places like Ruthenia (who knew there WAS such a place as Ruthenia?) at that time, without shoving a bunch of boring historical detail at you.
People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks is a good read. I can pass it on to you if you're interested.
This is a great idea. As soon as I get a few minutes I'll add some stuff. I'm always looking for book recommendations.
