Born and raised in NYC. I've been addicted to the printed word since before I learned to read. Living a dull and relatively uneventful life in the Big Apple but through books, especially science fiction, I've walked on many worlds and seen many things. I am interested in the future because that's where we're heading one day at a time. I'm a... more »

  • The Inner World of Farm Animals: Their Amazing Intellectual, Emotional, and Social Capacities

The Inner World of Farm Animals is a marvelous book on the studies of the capacities and intelligence of farm animals that hopefully will result in a demand for better treatment of these amazing animals. The book is interspersed with stories of individual animals who have demonstrated their intelligence and emotions.

One of my favorite historical novels, this book tells the story of Alexander the Great from the POV of Bagoas, a eunuch who was one of the spoils of Alexander's campaign in Persia. It's lyrically written by Renault who also wrote a biography of Alexander and many other novels set in the ancient Mediterranean world.

An hysterically funny book depicting the adventures of a girl growing up in the early decades of the 20th century. After decades I still recall certain scenes with a smile.

Based on true events, this novel tells the story of the friendship between the American Tom Jeffords and the Apache chief Cochise. The outcome is rather somber as apparently we never made a treaty that we didn't later break. The novel inspired a movie and a TV series.

Somehow Hambly hit upon the idea of crossing Star Trek: TOS with "Here Come the Brides". The result is a hilarious romp across time and space. It is one of the few TV tie-in novels that I like and one I've read multiple times.
