  • Thirteen Reasons Why
    • Rated 5 stars

Thirteen Reasons Why is a unique book, told from a unique perspective. A girl who committed suicide leaves seven tapes with a boy who liked her, giving thirteen of the stories--and reasons--why she did what she did. Her voice is surreal and haunting, as Clay Jensen follows the path she leaves for him. At once very sad and strangely poetic, this book will have an impact on you. I encourage you to read it, if only to experience those emotions for yourself.

  • Duh! The Stupid History of the Human Race
    • Rated 3 stars

The first book I bought about stupid little facts in our history as a species. Another gem of a book to place on my virtual shelf--I still have to buy one in real life--and I believe it was a great purchase.

  • Well , Duh !: Our Stupid World, and Welcome to It
    • Rated 3 stars

An even greater collection of then-up-to-date facts about stupidity in general, and a very breezy almost bathroom-reader style book. It's very nice; I'm glad I bought it.

  • New Moon
    • Rated 4 stars

While this was not as good as Twilight, mainly because of the middle part of the book, New Moon kept me enthralled with the story of Edward and Bella, and their respective experiences. I also can't remember something that I read with more fervor or sheer tenacity, which is definitely a good thing. It is taking everything in my power to wait until next week to buy Eclipse, and I'll probably fold long before then. A sweet surrender, if you ask me.

While not nearly as interesting as the first book, Saucer, Saucer: The Conquest is still worth a read. I think part of this is just that I am much more interested in reading other books right now; I skimmed over the last 100 pages or so. I do hope that Stephen Coonts does write a sequel, and I will definitely read it if he does.

  • Twilight
    • Rated 5 stars

I really am surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. To me, though some of the romance was over-the-top, I didn't really think of it as girly, or unbearable. The thrilling conclusion was really the icing on the cake for me. Exceeding my expectations, Twilight was a great book, and I can't wait to start New Moon. In fact I think I'll do that now.

  • The Dangerous Days of Daniel X
    • Rated 5 stars

Amazing. This book went by way too quickly for me. I loved the 2-3 page chapters which sped the book along nicely, moving from one climactic event to the next with effortless ease. James Patterson has created a likable series protagonist in Daniel X, a boy imbued with otherworldly powers and a sharp wit. From his inescapable ordinariness to his crush on a girl he can create with his mind, Daniel is a character that one can easily relate to, and cheer for. With a knack for finding danger in all the wrong places, Daniel is sure to have way too much on his hands at any given moment. A great read, a remarkable start to a series, and a step in the right direction for Mr. Patterson, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors; as a side note, it's a shame he probably wasn't the one who put pen to paper to craft this fine work of young adult fiction, and he probably doesn't regret it--too bad.

  • Rendezvous with Rama
    • Rated 5 stars

I love this book. I think that beside the Invisible Man, this was probably the book that most influenced my love for science fiction. Clarke weaves a fantastical tale of a Martian ship headed for Earth, who then send a research team to check it out. The result of their journey is a magical and well-realized perspective on how the Martians did things. A wonderful, romantic sci-fi epic, Rendezvous with Rama is one of my favorite books of all time.

  • Lights! Camera! Action Dog! (Wishbone Mysteries (Paperback))
    • Rated 3 stars

This was one of the better kids series that I read growing up. I really enjoyed the quick-paced plots, and funny dialogue. One cool thing about this series was that in each installment the main character was reading a different classic novel, and would talk about it during the book. I ended up adding a lot of them to my to-read list.
