Sez, Michele

I enjoy reading a variety of books with a particular emphasis on authors from the African Diaspora, Latino/a authors, as well as books that explore multicultural, education, and social justice issues. I love poetry, mysteries and children's literature. In addition, I have a growing passion for photography.

This book is an excellent constructivist approach to classroom design.

This book is still very relevant today for little girls and grown women who have somehow or another internalized the "knight in shining armor" syndrome.

    A Tear and a Smile

    by Kahlil Gibran

I originally read this when I was in my early teens and was struck by the depth of emotion contained in Gibran's poetry. A Tear and a Smile has stayed with me all my life and has taken on more personal significance over the years. It is delightful and painful at the same time.

This is extraordinary writing that touches my heart each time I read it. It's one of the books that has taken on different meaning to me depending on where I am in my life. It transcends age.

This is an excellent book. The author has created an array of 3 dimensional characters that gives the reader a unique glimpse into the complexities of slavery in the United States.

I was most interested in this book because it helped (in a small way) to dispel the notion that the entire continent of African is devoid of urban environments. Children's early impressions of cultures outside of their own are shaped by the accurate or inaccurate information from adults.
