Sez, Michele

I enjoy reading a variety of books with a particular emphasis on authors from the African Diaspora, Latino/a authors, as well as books that explore multicultural, education, and social justice issues. I love poetry, mysteries and children's literature. In addition, I have a growing passion for photography.

I am very happy I have met some very special people on Shelfari, and some of them have joined my group and it is actually becoming what I intended it to be. Once again six degrees of separation. Without you I wouldn't have this experience and opportunity to utilize the computer in such a positive manner. Peace, Aliza

It's morning and of course I'm already oon the computer. I also read "Soul on Ice", and "Soledad Brothers". I had a very dear friend some years back who would educate me alot about them and other people and events during there time and told me different books to read about that time in History. I also read "Assata" by assata Shakur. I saw a brief interview on video she did in cuba. she is very beautiful.

RE: Political Ads Targeted on Shelfari Discussion Board

    Dear People,

I created/started the 'ROOTS' discussion board on Shelfari.
There is currently a thread called " Obama is who he says he is".
I just noticed that there are ads, paid for by the McCain-Palin 2008 campaign, on the side and bottom of the posts.

I don't think this is proper or fair. It's certainly not balanced.
I find this offensive, targeted and biased.
What is your position on this?

    Peace,
    "Guided by the Ancestors"

Yes, I know what you mean, learning to be still is really one of the health benefits of photography. Have you been getting these great shots in a park or are you a gardener?

Fantastic shot of the bee, I liked the butterfly you had earlier, too. That takes skill, I know. Very nice!

Dear Sez: If you like books that deal with multicultural issues and social justice, I hope you will one day find ALBERTVILLE on your bookshelves. I have just signed with a NY literary agency to represent this novel, which I hope will find a publisher before the spring. The novel features a young Black woman named Alma Jesse Westcott, who grows up in the segregated Alabama of the 1940s and 50s. After a terrible incident on the road to Albertbville, Alabama, she grows up and joins the US State Department on assignment in the Congo in 1960, just when that nation gains its independence from Belgium. The novel will juxtapose America's struggle with civil rights with its Cold War foreign policy in countries such as the Congo/Zaire. In the meantimre, you might enjoy my debut novel HUNTING THE KING, which came out in April. There is a wonderful YouTube book trailer for it well worth the watching if you have the time. Thanks. Happy reading. Peter

    Hi Michele,
Just checking in, from Kathmandu. Will you be able to swing your way over here in January as you said earlier? I'll be back in NY before then, but it would have been great to have a Shelfari/Photography Enthusiast meeting all the way out here, don't you think? Let me know if you need any information from here. Or you can read up on my blog about sights and sounds here. Later..

    Hi Michele,
Yeah...., and that's some of my ancestors in them pics. A good habit to get into is wearing lint-free cotton gloves when handling old photos and documents. My friend and colleague, Lisa B. Lee, FREAKED OUT when she saw auction giant Sotheby handle the estate papers of Malcom X with their bare oily hands! The Tee shirt is in support of her online venture of the same name.

    Peace,
