    Pimping Ain't Easy

Author Sexy is here with a fresh idea. Go to work as a correction officer to recruit women so she can be a madam. Now that is fresh and exciting. Deja Padilla has walked away from her marriage in true Tina Turner style: I want nothing but my name. Tired of being abused she walks away with the clothes on her back and her children. After some much needed counseling, Deja started a new beginning. I would of liked a little more background info on why she wanted to be a madam other then than it was a fantasy. Most people don't go through these lengths to bring fantasy to reality, but it was fun to read.

With the idea that corrections is the way to go, after graduating the academy Deja is sent to Albion Correctional Facility. There the recruitment of women begins. Deja enlists the help of Jheri, an inmate and a stud who has a way with the ladies. Jheri is smart enough to realize she can't pull it off alone. She gets the help of Nick, another stud who is very resourceful. As these two get the ball rolling they end up with a team of six girls, with the corrections officers being their biggest clients. Madame Deja is running a tight ship. When the unthinkable happens, can she keep her cool and handle the girls effectively? This is where it get interesting and makes you want to turn pages find out what is going to happens next.

I am ok with knowing there is going to be a part two. The problem I have is that there was no closure In this novel. For every plot and sub plot you have to wait for part two. There is a way to give closure on some fronts while effectively leaving us wanting a part two. This is the biggest drawback. I guess I will tune into part two to see how things turn out. I hope to get ALL the answers, as there are many lingering.

Just When You Think You Know

Silk White did such a good job with Tear of a Hustler Parts 1 & 2 that I couldn’t wait for 3 to see how the series was going to end. I enjoyed the book but was disappointed in the direction it took. While I know happy endings are not always in order, this one flips the scripts on us and you won’t know what to expect. If you think you know these characters in this book you will look at them all differently.

I have enjoyed Author Silk White's style of writing. I am four books in and will continue to look for his books in the future. It was the same style in this novel but something was really different in this one, more than just story. I don't know if there was a change in editors but the editing was the worst I've seen in this series.

Those remaining characters are back full fledge. Pauleena, Nancy and Ali, CoCo, and of course G-money. Love how he goes back to part two and gives us information. With the refresher taking us back to fight night, it's not hard to keep up. You will want to keep up because in a blink of the eye the direction of the book changes. Was this a great thing NO. The direction didn't work for me and didn't match up with the 1st two books in series. I would like to know why he changed the winning combination. I won't tell the story and ruin it for you all. I keep asking myself who are these people. It was not a complete fail; he does keep the drama and the bloodshed rolling. The game and players are changing. I'll let you be the judge if it's for the good.

    Color Blind

On a whole I am not crazy about short stories. Always seems something is missing whether it be the beginning, the middle or the end. For this short story, it's missing the middle. The beginning and the end carried out with near perfection. Even with the fact that I felt like I was missing something, this is a cute and enjoyable story; a very quick read that I finished while cooking dinner.

In the beginning, we get the background info on Diane Jones’ upbringing, all about her roots, how she comes to meet her future love interest, and about his family life. The end game was a little clean, but worked with the story. What’s missing is the middle. We missed the courtship. One minute they are a secret item. The next minute they're making plans for the future and keeping from both their families.

In this debut I can see the potential in author Alma Hudson. I wonder what she would do with a full length novel. With the small number of pages, I realize you can't include everything. Missing were some crucial conflicts, which would have seemed reasonable to be in an interracial book. Overall if you’re looking for a quick love story straight to the point this is the book for you. I would like to read a full length novel in the near future from Ms. Hudson

For The Love Of A Good Man

The gang is back and not a minute too soon. The story picks up three years later and I can see the growth in the characters. They have moved on to bigger and better things, but the street life is not so forgiving. Andre "Dre" Wade has left the drug dealing behind and is now a loyal taxpaying citizen. When "unsettled" debts creep back up, it puts Dre and his family in a crazy position. When the unthinkable happens and Dre has terrible accident, Nikki Bell has to lead the family and go back to the infamous strip club "The Pink Palace".

Going back into stripping was not in the plans, but to save her family, Nikki does what she has to. Things are far from the same; she is no longer the HBIC nor does she want to be. She there to do a job and get out. Malachi Turner the club owner has Nikki on a short leash and will do anything to control her. The question is: how far will Nikki go to protect her family? Jasmine the club headliner is a trip and the reason I enjoyed this novel so much. Her antics will keep you” incase” to see what she does next. Of course we get to keep up with some old friends as Jayson and Janelle make appearances, along with the new characters Kandi, Bump,Chauncey, Polo, Reggie and Ricky. This makes for some good ole reading.

Author Marlon McCaulsky has done what so many want to do: a successful sequel that is also a standalone book. Love how this author tells a story. His narration keeps you interested. I love a book where the characters have chapters and this author has mastered that effect. I look to see what he has in his future for us readers. I am sure he won’t disappoint the masses. I highly recommend this fast paced novel with an ending that will have you applauding.  With no stoned left unturned there is no need to continue, but I can see how Kandi and Jasmine can hold down the fort as we follow them as business women.

    A Love Like None Other

He's back like he never left, why is that? Because he never left us without a book to read. Mr. Benjamin comes back strong in this third part to the series. Be forewarned you will need part 4 and quick. Yes I said it, you will not be ready for this series to end, you are going to need more.

We pick up three years later and lil’ Treacherous is haunted by the death of his mother. What child wouldn't be seeing as he was there in the final moments of her life. He holds onto the memory of his parents by reading his mom’s journal. Through her journals, he is able to keep them alive, while he plots revenge. Then an incident in group home lands lil’ Treach in a mental hospital. There he meets Baby, and after a courtship that even she can’t deny, they become kindred spirits. As their love blossoms, it reminds me more and more of his parents love. They both have their issues but together they are sane and whole. We could all yearn for that kind of love. Even if you wanted not to you can’t help but to root for these two. If you’re not up on this series tell me what are you waiting for?

I truly enjoyed this book until the end, I wanted more. I need more, need to see how this is going to play out. Was left with no closure and that didn't sit well. Mr. Benjamin has piqued my interest and I will be on deck waiting for part four as I have to see how this going to play out. Even with the cliff hanger, this is a recommended read.

    Real Recognize Real

I had never read anything by Mr. Williams up to this point although I had heard a lot of great things about him from fellow reviewers. I actually have in my collection although unread  "Hell Raiser Honeys" parts one and two. I loved this book so much I wanted to go back to the beginning see if he always had the skills and to see how much he has grown as a writer. So, I brought "Fast Lane" to go back to the beginning. I have to say I didn't waste my money, as this was the only book I purchased at the 2011 Harlem Book Fair and I don't regret that one bit.

This is prison story like none other. It managed to change my views on the things go on in jail. While I have no personal experience with the prison system, I felt like I had a degree in prison 101 as this novel was easy to follow along with. Yes innocent men go to jail, men unjustly get sent to prison and its all between these pages. As we follow four friends Ronald, Blue, T-Bone and Frank who go from juvenile to prison, we watch them turn to men right before our very eyes. Will everyone be able to make it out alive? Even in jail their bond is strong and they have each other backs - the only way to survive. As we follow them and their families over the course of thirty years no stone is left unturned. We see the good, the bad and the ugly. Trust they have a story to tell. One you won’t want to miss. You will scream at the characters, root for the characters and on more than one occasion curse at them. The ending is brilliant and the perfect ending no don't worry mums the word you gonna have to read it.

Now that I have this author on my radar, I will be keeping up with him. Eager to see what he has on deck for us readers next. kicking myself for not trying him earlier but as the saying goes better late than never right?

Up To Old Tricks Or Is He?

This is my third read by this author. I am happy to still be interested as he keep the reading fresh and worthy of second looks. This novel has the usual suspects, and he has made it very thought-provoking. You can’t help but to ask yourself, “what would I do.” The more you get into the story the more you want at-least I did.

Dontae "Serious" Mosley is back and he hasn't missed a beat. Now he is on his "Grown Man" tip. Life is good for Serious he has decided to get married and have a baby. Can he live up to the responsibilities or will Mufasa make it hard for him? As always, trouble seems to follow Serious around like the plague. His career is taking off and family life is great. That is until tragedy strikes, and then Serious’ thinking goes haywire. When he is presented with an indecent proposal, the book takes off and it just keeps getting better and better. The plot thickens with the cast and while some is predicable most is not and will leave you shaking your head.

Wanting to see if he continues this, as I would like to see how things play out as the past has come to back to life. It was nice to get a glimpse of Ms. Yadira Sky and keep tabs on her. I await what this talented author has on deck for readers next. I hope we don’t have to wait too long as he has skills. Looking forward to seeing more from Mr. Sheriff very soon.

    RENDEZVOUS 2: Nieva's Dilemma

Does Aiden Get What He Deserves?

We pick up right where part one left off and its up and running from there. I don't know how Mrs. Walls was able to display such a public display of Nieva and Aiden and have it work so well but she did it. If you made it to part two, then you know these characters are more than lifelong friends; they are family. Yes, it’s still shocking for me to see an office full of higher ups in serious relationships, but Loretta has some serious skills with the pen and it works very well. The one problem I had with the book was, how could The paternity of baby be called into question the timeline wasn't as clear but it seemed to only be two days between her incident with Aiden and the thoughts of pregnancy came into play. With the exception of this, the rest of book is on point and deals with real issues.

We learn that Aiden is a monster. You will spend the novel waiting to see how things are going to play out and it’s not when he gets what he deserves, but who will do honors. As we read, we learn it’s a LONG list who have been hurt by him. The women that were affected by Aiden have an unbreakable bond and as the shocking details are revealed, they will leave you gasping. Nievea is the main focal point and we see how life with her and Francisco has progressed. We catch up with the old friend Menchyon while Sondeara is still waiting on him with baited breath. Will she finally get ALL of him?  Gemini who is Francisco’s mother has brought a different equation into the mix. I wanna be like her when I grow up! She let it all hang out and is still a foxy momma in her upper years. All the couples are still together and moving forward. There are even appearances from Tiffany Rivera-English and her husband. They are from "A Fantasy of Love" and while I haven't read it yet, because of their guest appearance I purchased it so I could check it out.

I must say this author has not disappointed me yet. If you don’t have her on your radar it’s time to get with the program. Her style is like no other and she will draw you in and keep you interested with multiple characters and several sub-plots that will all get tied in before the novel is done. She has proven herself to me and will keep me waiting for any new stuff to hit the market. Dare I say she is one of my favorites? No dare about it, she is one of my favorites. Take a bow Mrs. Walls you earned it and keep coming with the new and fresh stories. I challenge one to say this author’s stories are not original and fresh. No recycled story line on her end - period. A highly recommend read and please, check out part one first.

Merceous made me pimp slap him

This was my first autobiographical read. I like the way it read like a fiction novel and not like the typical autobiography. A decent read although something was missing that keep it from being a "wow” book . I can’t put my finger on what was missing. I wasn't very pleased that the title didn't match story. Seems the play on the title was more of attention grabber then to do with actual story. The timeline of the story wasn't always clear and there were characters that made appearances to not be seen or heard from again.

Wedding day is the opening scene and you get a glimpse of what is to take place and it’s not a pretty picture. As any woman know, love makes you blind. You will follow along as Mr. Right turns to Mr. Wrong right before your very eyes. Most will be screaming’ get out while you can’. I can relate to staying too long in a bad relationship for the sake of family. Marceous King thinks he is perfect and ANY woman would be happy to be married to him. His attitude and demeanor will have you screaming at him, you will call him everything but a child of God. Add in the in-laws and you get the mother in-law from hell Buela Mae and a know-it-all sister, you come up with a recipe for disaster.

I found Ondrea King to be a gullible wife.  While she wanted to give the picture of a not so stupid woman, stupid was one word that comes to mind on staying so long in this verbally abusive marriage. I can respect being a God fearing woman, can’t see how the church can have so much power over anyone’s life. Misery should be no one’s life. I can’t see how the pastor could say stay and work it out for what seemed like years and I would  listen. If not happy, get the hell on with/without church blessings. With so many signs that this marriage wasn't healthy, there is no way she should have stayed as long as did. On the very last page things seems to come full circle. Disappointed that it took up until the last page to make the climax…way to long.

    Crack Vol 1 by Shaka

    Detroit Murder Capital

I have had this book for a few years before deciding to pull it out and read it based on a recommendation in a reading challenge group I belong to. This was an enjoyable book with a few drawbacks that I hope the author rectifies in future publications.  One being the unclear time frame of the chapters, whether it was present or in the past. While the necessary history was a needed fact in this book it interrupted the flow with having to figure out if was present or past. This fact took so much away from this being a banger it prevented it from shining as it was meant to. The other quirk was the spelling of the curse words. I am guessing maybe its a Detroit slang thing but it accomplished nothing other than to annoy the hell outta me. While the readers know the villain from the beginning, it reads like a mystery as the main character is trying to figure out whom the villain is.

Detective Devon Jensen has returned to his childhood state to do good as the city is going down hill and fast. On his first case since his return he realizes the victim in his murder case is a childhood friend. While investigating, he meets the medical examiner Dr. Brooks and the sparks fly with budding romance following. Dr. Brooks is guilty by association when Det. Jensen's head is wanted on a platter.  We follow the couple as they try to stay one step ahead of the unknown killers. Drug dealers Damu and his crew, and nemesis Dominquez Santiago and his crew make for action packed pages filled with a rising death toll. The gun play is crazy with quite a few unbelievable situations.

Author Shaka gives a solid debut with a few issues as explained earlier. I believe if he gets a handle on those he will be one to keep an eye on. I do believe I will continue on with the series to see how he brings it back. This book does have closure which is a great thing. Hoping to see the growth in the next book.
