seven_veils

I'm a Graham Greene-obsessed neo-Londoner with a slight Northern chip on my shoulder. I've loved books since I was about 2, when I discovered an illustrated book of shrews, but I'm leaning more towards fiction nowadays...

Hi! Thanks for the friends request. I'm a little late in my note to you--but that is who I am--always a little behind in practically everything I do :). I've never been to London, but it has always fascinated me. Love to read books, fiction, chick lit, whatever, set in London or just about anywhere in Great Britain. What are you reading? I'm reading The Secret Life of Bees and loving it. I also like books set in the American South. Next on my list is Salem Falls by Jodie Picoult. Her books are usually set in New England where I live.

thanks for inviting me to be a friend. i to have lovely friends in the north and great memories of visits. we seem to have similiar taste in childrens books, that i have read to my children and now my grandchildren. a special favourite is the secret garden, of which amberglass and another friend named a garden we used to sit in near the cathedral at winchester, because it had a very friendly robin. flat stanley and stig of the dump was another my children and i read quite alot. did you read richard and judy's selection? what are you reading now? i am just finishing a twelve week course on old english, hard to re-establish grammar after so many years as we take it for granted that we get it right everyday. it is exciting to be able to read the stories and poems of this period though, full of adventure, humour and human life of the times. speak to you again soon. have a good week.mossflower

Mmmmm, just been pilfering your shelves. I do still wish I could read faster than I do - I feel rather hobbled, damn & blast you.

Thanks for asking to be Shelfari friends. I can relate to the Northern chip: we've spent many holidays on the canals and the friends we've made are all from the North: Liverpool, Manchester, Holmfirth, Lancashire... We preferred cruising in the North too!
I noticed The Famous Five on your shelves: I've read them in translation and enjoyed them a lot as a kid, but I can't remember any plots or titles... I'm still cross with my mum because she gave them all away without asking me!
