I was a little bit afraid when I started reading this compilation of short essays because the author was starting to enumerate uninteresting numbers concerning purchases habits and the like. But, seriously, I earnestly enjoyed the rest of it and it truly was interesting most especially the last one, concerning schooling and perception it gives on ourselves. I'm not quite sure about giving this book four stars but it's surely close to it.

I must say that I think it's just a shame that from almost all of the restaurants of the book none had meals for under 50$ (except for what I reckoned to be appetizers). It's a shame because I think they are tons of exceptionally good restaurants with good prices that would deserved to be known. Especially for Japan which is known to have really good and cheap Japanese food (except for say French cuisine, Italian pastas and fruits). I think the hotels were a bit more decent, justly combining luxury and good prices. I noted down merely one restaurant from this book whereas I noted down several hotels.

Started on January 28th 2013 and finished on March 10th. I was attracted by the cover of this old book that I found in an antiquaire shop during a trip in Vermont.

I can't help but love the first sentence of the book: "Several years ago, during the spring semester of my junior year in college, as an alternative to either deserting or marrying a girl, I signed a suicide pact wth her."

I loved reading the first chapter. The quick rhythm and enumeration was perfect for a first encounter with Pookie.
I learned a new word: rigmarole. I like the sound of it.

Towards the middle of the book, though, I found the quality ebbing more and more at every page. The author was accumulating the non-pertinant stuff. I just couldn't understand all this moaning towards the end.
