“This, both the edition from my mother's childhood and the gift edition from my aunt on my First Communion, was one of my favorite books when I was a very Catholic little girl. I still think of the pictures in this book when I think of the saints.”

“The problem with this book about a suicidal teen is this: I was initially inclined to sympathize with her, to feel deeply for her, but the end (final tape) of the novel--and really, the cruelty and vengeance inherent in its entire premise--left me disliking her intensely. For a novel for adults, that would be an intriguing character-reader dynamic, but for a reasonably preachy YA book, it didn't seem appropriate at all. Hmm.”
