Howdy! I'm a suspense author with two hardcovers on the shelves. INFECTED was released by Crown Publishing in April, 2008, and CONTAGIOUS hit in December of that same year. CONTAGIOUS landed on the New York Times best-seller list for January, 2009. The next book is ANCESTOR, which hits the shelves on May 4, 2009.

I liked this book a lot, although it fell into the James Bond "this character can't be beat" category and that removed much of the suspense. A brilliant take on technology-based immortality. Plenty of guns, chicks and explosions.

What can you say? A classic good time of scifi.

Before anyone thought of the words "reality TV" as the thing that has a chokehold on our entertainment culture, King wrote THE RUNNING MAN. This book is far more entertaining in the 2000s than it is when he wrote it, because now it's embedded in the cultural context of SURVIVOR and AMERICAN IDOL. Just with guns and a lot more death.

One of the few books I was forced to read in school that really hit home. An imaginary future that is a clear analogy to our present and recent past. It's frightening, as it shows a very clear pattern of humans - if we have it, we use it. We have nukes. It's only a matter of time ...

A kick-ass good time of a sequel. Definitely a slice of something different for a guy who prefers monsters and shoot-em-ups, but I read this in two days. I remember hiding it behind my boring science book and reading in class.

One of the most unique premises I ever read in a scifi book. So much fun, so many unexpected elements, it just plain rocked. Not many surprises from the romantic storyline, but Killashandra is a character that has stayed stuck in my head for over 20years.

Continues to stand out as a sentinel event in literature. Definitely some spooky shit here. Pop culture has referred to 1984 so much, and for so many trivial things that happen to involve the government just doing its job that we're desensitized to the accurate warning this book puts in front of us. Just ask the poor bastards in China who can disappear for sending the wrong kind of emails ...

This seemed like a book from a bygone era, as in, if it were submitted to publishing houses today it might have a devil of a time getting published. The opening scene sees the character perform superhero-level antics, escaping the law like a James Bond opener, only without establishing setting, culture, skill of those chasing him, etc. Read a lot like a superspy novel of the 50s (where the spy is unflappable and unbeatable) painted with a thin sheen of scifi. I couldn't finish it, but could definitely see the appeal of a fun romp through the galaxy.

Another fun book from The Lord of the Undead, David Wellington. With zombies already in the bag (Monster Island), he's moved on to vampires. Gory, fast-paced, good times in the land of the dead.
