Howdy! I'm a suspense author with three hardcovers on the shelves. INFECTED was released by Crown Publishing in April, 2008, and CONTAGIOUS hit in December of that same year. CONTAGIOUS landed on the New York Times best-seller list for January, 2009. Then ANCESTOR, which came out in June 2010.

These books are scary. Seriously. I mean... more »

I might be biased, but the GFL is winning in my opinion.

Really just wasn't my thing. As a popcorn movie, this would be fantastic fun. As a book, it's a bit slow, particularly if you don't know a lot about car racing -- the action is hard to follow. It's also rather contrived to get the mono-a-mono duel setup. Executives can challenge each other to death-duels on the open road, but the cars can't have weapons, because apparently that would be uncivilized. This means that the best executives don't have to know anything about economics or consulting, etc., they just have to be great drivers. From there, it was hard for me to stay with the concept. Also a bit too preachy with the constant anti-capitalist sermons.

Of course I give this friggin' five stars. And yeah, when I ran for class elections, I voted for myself.

Phenomenal. Easily in my Top-10 of all time. I've never read Palanhiuk before and am a big fan of the movie, but finally gave the book a whirl. I hate to admit it, but Chuck deserves every ounce of the critical acclaim heaped on him for this.

Fantstic book, just loved it. Light-hearted sci-fi fun, this should get optioned in a hurry because it would make a sweet movie. Scalzi sets up some obvious endings, then gives you a bit of the switcheroo. That crazy, red-herring dealin' man ...

Scalzi's sense of humor gives real life to the dialog and character interaction. The concept of soldiers that have already lived a full life puts an interesting perspective on how people would fight, and how they would feel about service. The alien races are too numerous to count, all sans any significant description.

A book that was way ahead of its time, and an anchor in using scientific premise to set up horror as opposed to the supernatural. The concepts in Body Snatchers are amazing, and it does a great job of setting up subdued terror and placing you in a hopeless situation with the characters. Sleep, such a basic element of our lives, yet if you do slumber, you'll never wake again. The plotlines, however, shred pretty badly towards the end - Finney has to find numerous illogical excuses to preserve the isolation of Santa Mira, and even when the protagonists escape the town, they inexplicably turn around and head back in a highly contrived rationalization.

This is a very interesting book. Preston takes some liberties with the concept of "terrifying," but there is not doubt that there is frightening potential here.

Pretty funny book if you're into Zombie stuff, or you've just seen 3-4 good zombie movies over the years.

I have to say I've never read anything quite like this book. Not my cup of tea, but I did enjoy it.
