Hi! Can you do me a favour? I just switched my blogger comments from pop-up window to embedded to enable me to be able to respond to comments individually. I switched from embedded to pop-up because some bloggers couldn't post comments while they were embedded -- I seem to recall you might have been one of them. So, can you let me know if you can still comment on my blog now that I've switched back to embedded?

    Thanks!

    Hi Sawcat,
Thanks for your suggestions for more pride-and-prejuduce-like series. I did buy sense and sensibility, but I want to read the book first ( In my imagination I owned it, but when I start looking for it I couldn't find it, so I first have to buy it). Nice profile-picture you have :) By the way did you like princess of Ireland?

Hi Sawcat I noticed you read Cleopatra's Daughter by Michelle Moran. That one is on my TBR list. The books are labeled in Shelfari as part of a series. Do you feel the books stand alone or should I read them in order that they were published? Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Loved your review on Artemis Rising - made me want to read the book NOW. Of course it's on my list now.

If there were a hundred extra pages on her last few novels, it would have made a difference. And I've noticed that she's not writing from the Canadian perspective lately - which is what I mostly enjoyed - but I guess she has to please two different audiences :) I think she's getting way too commercial - I'd hate to see her go the way of Stephanie Plum.

I also blog, although not entirely about books, but please feel free to check it out: http://issysue.blogspot.com

I'm looking forward to your thoughts on Lady of the English. I thought it was well done, particularly Chadwick's characterization of Matilda. It did, however, take me longer to get into the story than I usually do with Chadwick's books and it wasn't quite detailed enough for my liking...do much left out.

A belated welcome to the Sesquicentennial Read of Civil War History group!

As you're probably noticed, we're a small group with a pretty active core. We have discussions over group reads every two months (our upcoming one for November, as you may have seen, will be over William C. Davis's Battle at Bull Run), with a discussion thread provided for people to post their observations and questions over the chapters they have read. Members post other information about the American Civil War as well, such as upcoming exhibits and television programs that might be of interest to the group.

Feel free to introduce yourself in the Introductions thread. We look forward to your participation!

To be fair, that's only my temporary rating, although I doubt that I'll change it. I'm the better part of three chapters in, and it's incredibly well researched. She cites plenty of sources, primary and secondary, and it has a large bibliography -always something I look for. It's difficult to call a book like this "exciting", but it's well worth a read to set the civil war in context, if you're at all interested in that. I highly recommend a read.

That sucks that it's not available for the Nook. I think that up until recently it was only available through iBooks, so maybe you won't have to wait long until it is available for the Nook.

BTW - I'm glad you proposed the Sharpe readalong. I'm really enjoying the book.

Thanks for all the info, sawcat! I guess if my library starts having to get Bluray (I'm sure we'll stick with regular DVDs unless we have to switch, or Bluray becomes more common), we'll just have to upgrade my computer so I can catalogue them. :-) I guess once that happens, we'll need to have something else in the library that could play them, too, actually, for anyone who can't use them at home.

Forgot to mention I watched HP last weekend. I had a few issues with it, although I've has issues with all the movies (mainly concerning changes from books), but thought the scenes with Snape to be excellent. Rickman rocks!

Would you believe he wants to add Fresno, Madera, Mariposa and Merced counties to his "state"?? What a strage looking state that would be!! He would be getting Yosemite!! Cannot allow that to happen!!

Hi. Since we aren't going to do a secondary read for August it probably is best if we keep the discussion in the main group. I'll participate. Feel free to start the discussion thread, or let me know when to do so and I can do it. Who else wants to read along? I think Mara indicated an interest.

I've decided that even if Sharpe's Tiger doesn't win I am going to make a point of reading it this summer anyway. Have you watched the BBC Sharpe movies? I think you mentioned somewhere you have. I want to read the books first, but I might have to give at least one a try since I do love Sean Bean. Have you continued watching A Game Of Thrones?

I'm so glad you nominated the Sharpe book. That one never crossed my mind to nominate yet I've been meaning to read it (and the series) for ages!
