    Assalamu alaykum
I've only just started reading it, but I immediately thought of you: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Have you read it?
    Where are you these days?

    Assalamu alaykum,
SAUDA! Why didn't you tell me about Daddy Long Legs? I just finished it now and am so sad that I didn't read it as a young girl, I can just imagine having fantastic memories of curling up in some private corner and devouring it all in one afternoon. It is a YUMMY book.
How are you? Is Sunnipath still keeping you from your true passion?

Assalamu alaykum! How are you? I picked up the Dorothy Sayers book you recommended, but haven't started it yet. Will let you know, inshaAllah. In the meantime, I've "discovered" Margaret Oliphant, have you heard of her? Why have you never said anything???
I'm reading Literacy and Longing in L.A. and while it's a bit pretentious, it's definitely written for bibliophiles. WHAT are you reading these days?

REEEEEally?! The age difference bothered you? Maybe there's something wrong with me, but that was my favorite element. I actually ended up picking up a very nice edition of the Doyle books that I plan to read... AFTER I read Rhett Butler's People. I know, I'm sorry, but any Gone with the Wind spin-offs are required reading. The second one in the Laurie King books is a tiny bit disappointing. No where as good as the first.

It's called The Beekeeper's Apprentice. It is definately the best of the series.

Don't you find Wilkie Collins a bit too fantastic?

Wa alaykum assalam! I've been plowing through a bunch of losers lately. I found out that Sophie Kinsella has a pseudonym (or that Kinsella is her p.n.) and has a several books published under Madeleine Wickham. DO NOT read them. They are horrible. Cheap, tawdry, and worse ... badly written! I'm actually trying to plow through some non-fiction these days but don't want to send you the title in case your computer is being spied on :). You can see it on my shelf.
What about you? What are you reading?

Salams! How are you? How's Jordan? I feel bad recommending a book to you without being about to get it to you. BUT, if you do happen to have a visitor coming soon ... the Laurie King books about Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russell are great! I just finished the first one and I can't get the characters (and their relationship) out of my head. I'm not much of a mystery fan, but the mysteries here are peripheral to the story anyway. Now I want to go back and read the original Doyle works.
    What are you reading?

Oh my! I've just finished. Thank you so much for for introducing me to this book. I cannot believe that he pulled it off. It was so clever, I was jealously thinking, 'I want to write myself into Jane Eyre, too!!' I've already put the next one on hold, should be in any day now. Have you read it? Is it as good?

I'm a little more than halfway through the book, and I can't help but be dissappointed with how little Jane Eyre characters have appeared so far. But I still really like the book, it is one of the most imaginative I've read in a long time.
My husband started reading Eragon and he says it is embarassing how well-written and tightly crafted it is. Written by a 15-year-old!!! (One of the best arguments for homeschooling I've seen yet!).
I've put Damsel on hold, it will be my first Wodehouse.
I'm also in the middle of Wicked (Wizard of Oz from the point of view of the witch. It's actually a really philosophical exploration of evil if you can believe it) and Ella Enchanted. Check out the reviews on Amazon, I could have some books sent to you when my brother comes to CA and back inshaAllah.

I've just gotten to where she meets EFR for the first time. This book is toooooo weird. But I'm really enjoying it. What are you reading now? Please give my salams to your family (especially Shabnam)

I started The Eyre Affair. What a crazy, outlandish idea. Where on earth did you hear about it? I love the quotes at the start of the chapters "Tie Seller in Victoria" and "Millon de Floss" LOL.
My library -very annoyingly- has books 1 and 3 of the Aiden trilogy. I can't very well buy just #2, so I have to go to Chapters and sit and read it there, which, with the hubbub of the move and all, has not been happening. I may just have to come to Jordan, bring my "Castle" and borrow your "Duty and Desire".

I've only just finished reading it and I feel so conflicted about it. I was screaming at her when they were sitting on the mound at the end, why, why, why didn't she just say yes. But upon further reflection, it would have been too tidy. It got really dark after the first half. The quirkiness seemed to be gone (until they locked the dad up:)). I want to discuss this with you in person. Tell me your thoughts on this book. It has really affected (effected?) me, I could actually feel my hal changing at certain points (then I'd have to stop). The Eyre Affair just came in for me at my library. Yay! No reading gaps! :)

I've just finished the part with the Midsummer Rites and I'm so confused. What's going on? Is the book going to be ruined? Don't tell me.

Salams! I hope that means that you liked them. I was so stressed that you had spent your gift card on them. I've only gotten halfway through the second one (b/c I have to sit and read it at Chapters, my library doesn't have it, and I've maxxed out on my book spending). According to the reviewers, this one is the slowest of the three. Would you recommend them? Should I keep going?
Is reading in Jordan different than reading in lush Bay Area?

Oh my goodness, I love you. I couldn't have put it any better! I actually just didn't like Mirah at all and, as bad as this sounds, resented her happiness.
Didn't you hope that Gwendolyn would end up with Daniel some how? I know it would've been too fairy tale, but when you-know-who falls you-know-where, my heart soared. I thought, maybe, just maybe.
My favorite (and the most terrible) scene in the book is soon after they are married and she gets the jewelry from Mrs. Can't remember her name. The way Eliot describes the Furies that entered the home ... it was almost physical!
I can't remember, have you read Middlemarch?
