In college I signed up for a women's history course and I was assigned to read a book called Cunt by Inga Muscio. I dropped the class and the book sat on my shelf for a few years. Once I did read it, it started a whole new chapter in my life. The author pointed out that men dominate many fields, and that we have to seek out women who are writing, painting, etc or we may never be exposed to them. The author recommended taking one year to read only books written by women. I decided to start doing that in 2004, and kept it up for 5 years.

Before I started reading books by women I used to mostly read mystery and horror stories. Now I've read all kinds of different genres by women, and I have many more to go! I tend to keep re-reading the books I have though, like Barbara Kingsolver's books. I also recommend This is Not Chick Lit (a great collection of short stories by women that are so imaginative and-some-really out there that you'll be surprised). I've also started adding web design/development books since that's what I do for money and photography books because I love photography and hope to make some money with it in the future.

Most recently I'm reading lots of baby-related and cooking books...my two newest passions.
