Starbooks

Books have been a passion for me since I was a small child. Now, at 61, I still have a room full of books 'waiting to be read', and an MP3 player loaded with more 'reads' to enjoy while working out at the gym.
By trade, I work in Breast Cancer Research. I am single, with only one grown child who lives in Portland Oregon. I share my home...more »

Hi Starbooks. I really enjoyed Loving Frank. It was told through the voice of Mamah Cheney which gives you a little different perspective on Frank Lloyd Wright's life and personality.

Hi Starbooks! I just made a new group to talk about the New York book scene, exchange recommendations, and that sort of things. It is called New Yorkers Unite! As a fellow New Yorker, I wanted to ask you to join. Look forward to seeing you there!

Hi, i've been sending this to everyone who's profile makes it look like they might care. If you live in NY near Manhattan or Staten Island or anywhere in Brooklyn, or anywhere near Brooklyn you have to take a look at this:

    http://newyork.backpage.com/community/classifieds/ViewAd?oid=oid%3A2976545&name=events

It's an ad for a bone marrow donor drive for a friend of mine's little sister. His little sister Rachel Rodin has contracted a very very rare form of lukemia, otherwise known as cancer of the blood, after a 2 year remission. If a match is not found for her she may die within 12-14 months. All the test is is a swipe of the inside of your mouth w/ a sterile cotton swob(a q-tip) and then they put it tn a machine & test the DNA; there are no needles that you have to fret about for the testing. I've been telling everyone that I know. My aforementioned friend is a great guy, he doesn't deserve to lose his little sister. Try your hardest to either come and participate in the drive or spread the word to those who can. this is a little seven year old girl who desperately needs help. This is a family that has gone through this once already and is at the point that they think that no one cares anymore about the welfare of their fellow man. Show them that someone out there really does care. come to the Sheridan Council Knights of Columbus, lcated at 8415 7th Ave. (bet. 84th & 85th Sts), Brooklyn NY on January 19, 2008 between 9 am and 1 pm. Give Rachel Rodin the gift of life. You may be her only hope.

I saw that you work in the area of breast cancer research and I just wanted to take a moment and thank you. I am a survivor and have great admiration for those of you who are involved in the research area of breast cancer. Thank you ! Tina

Hi Starbooks, interesting shelf - we have several books in common. I'm also a nurse, there seem to be a lot of nurses on this site. Wish I could work less and read more! So many books, so little time........Linda

I would recommend "Dogs of Babel" by Carolyn Parkhurst. Read it a while ago, but really enjoyed it!

Hi There.. it was great to receive your note you left for me. I have returned from Scotland. It was so wonderful! Everything I had hoped it would be and more. Your birthday is tomorrow.. that is so exciting. I just love birthdays! For the last few years my husband has taken me to Dunnottar in Scotland... because it is my favorite place on earth. {and I have seen a lot of places} We went to other places as well.. but finished up with Dunnottar.. for our evening picnic.. and then went into Stonehaven for some wonderful warm sticky toffee pudding with fresh cream poured over the top. The perfect ending to my day. ~grin~

    Hi Sandy,

I really liked the Mermaid Chair. I thought that it was a good story and very easy to read. I have been trying hard to read things that are not just top ten mysteries, and I really enjoyed this one.

I am an ICU nurse, but breast cancer has touched both sides of my family. Thank you for the job you do!

Hi there, Thanks for stopping by my shelf & leaving a friendly note. Your job sounds very interesting & rewarding. Where has it taken you? I see you have The Glass Castle on your shelf. I've heard a lot about it from Shelfarians; did you like it?
