I am an author. My debut novel, "A Family of Strangers" is a historical family saga set in Australia in 1790s.

Ever since I learned how to read, I developed a voracious appetite for fiction. I continue to read -- about 3 novels a week. I also try to write as my favourite writers do, hoping I will produce books I will enjoy reading... more »

Cassandra Barnes has written a wonderful paranormal-romance novel that is sure to please the discerning romance reader.

Kyle is damaged by his sister's too early death, for which he blames himself for not doing enough to save her. He is not allowed to have closure because his fanatic of a father is bent on a course of revenge. He is determined to wipe out all and every organisation that deals with the paranormal because he sees them as dangerous entities and blames one of them for causing the death of his beloved daughter, Jenny.

Gaelynn has a doctrate in psychology, but she also has the "gift" of the paranormal, and she is determined to use this gift to help her patients deal with their problems.

Kyle and Gaelynn meets; they are attracted to each other, but too much stand between them for a happy ending. Something has to give.

How these two lovable people finally find happiness with each other will keep you, the romance reader, riveted till you reach the end of this novel.

I read this book in school as one of the English text, and enjoyed it. I saw it as a romance, and was amazed that my school would encourage their students to read a romance! I have since learned to appreciate Jane Austen a lot more, especially when she wrote in a time there were so few women authors published. Her books have been enduring, becoming classics, and they competing very well with today's authors, male and female!

I saw the recent movie/tv versions of Pride and Prejudice, but I think the BBC tv version had a better feel to it, closer to what Jane Austen had written. :)

Yes, Auel does get repititious as she gets into her sequel, but then most authors who write sequels tend to do this, even Diana Gabaldon. I read the sequels till I don't enjoy them anymore and let the rest of the sequels go. But then many readers enjoy reading the same thing over and over, like children who love their favourite books read to them over and over, except as adults, we like different titles to the books, different character names (even if the characters are alike in many ways) the setting changes a bit.... Hey we are allowed to read what we enjoy, and for those who don't, there is no compulsion for you to continue reading the series!

I am an author, and I am writing the sequel to my first book "A Family of Strangers" -- and I am very careful NOT to repeat myself. It's fortunate perhaps that I am writing a historical -- so I have my characters react to the historical events and I think if I move the characters through time, I have them age etc. We shall see. I hope my readers will reach out to me and tell me, if I do repeat myself -- it is the only way to learn. :)

I'm a great fan of David Gemmell and I've enjoyed reading his "Shield of Thunder", the second book of his TROY trilogy. David Gemmell died July 2006. His wife completed the third book of the trilogy and it is now out. I will be checking out this last book.
