Thanks for the link. I love postmodern fiction. So I ought to have loved Zero Degree. But I find some of his gimmicks a little irritating. But then it does have its charm. And it's not fair to judge a book without having read it completely.

I love second hand book stores and second hand books. I think the pleasure derived from browsing books almost equals the pleasure derived from reading the books themselves.I have frittered away many hours in bookstores and libraries. I find second hand books especially charming. A used book has an extra dimension. A smear, a folded page, an underlined passage. It's fascinating.

Do read Borges. Landmark has a copy of his Collected Fictions (Complete short stories). Do buy it if you can afford it (Rs 600). It's worth every penny (Rupee). I would also recommend Alberto Manguel's A history of reading (also available at Landmark).

I was told that there is a bookshop in Egmore that has some very rare books. I could not locate it. Have you heard about it?

I love talking about books (also movies and music). Glad to see that you intend to talk and the request for friendship wasn't for the heck of it.

So you are from Chennai. I remember being bowled over by Landmark when I visited it a few years back. But I wasn't that impressed when I visited it a few weeks back. The bookshops here in Cochin have managed to catch up.

How did you like Lem's Cyberiad? And where did you get it? I have been looking for that for a long time. Also surprised to see Borges and the eternal Orangutan on your shelf. While we are on the subject have you read Borges? Amazing man that! A true genius.

And we ought to discuss graphic novels. My interest in the genre was sparked by Alan Moore's Watchmen. Also got to read Tezuka's Buddha (only Vol 1). I have a few graphic novels lined up in my reading list incl Persepolis, Maus, Blankets and Black Hole.

Nice shelf! Recognized some old friends there! And you seem to have a penchant for graphic novels.
