  • When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit

I found this to be a very boring story of a young girl and her brothers escape from Germany & life in Switzerland & France. The book is slow and the only real presence of the Nazi's come in events that children won't understand the relevance of. There is little in this book that could teach children about the war or the holocaust, unless they wish to learn how children lived safely away from the war in the early years (33 - 35)

An excellent book showing young and old alike about the terror of living under the Taliban rule in Afghanistan. After the arrest of her father, Parva must dress as a boy to sell what can be found and read letters for money. The strangle hold of daily life for women is clearly represented. We don't know what happens to Parva in the end and I wonder if a sequel will be written. I for one would read it.

don't bother, quite likely one of the worst childrens books I've ever read! Not even my son enjoyed it and ten year olds love belching.

I held my breath during the entire story. The ultimate pain and fear of domestic abuse is eloquently spoken through Jamie. If you don't read anything else this year, pick this short story off the shelves.

  • She Said Yes: The Unlikely Martyrdom of Cassie Bernall
    • Rated 3 stars

A difficult and revealing biography of a young teen who was murdered in the tragic Columbine killings. Cassie was shown as a 'martyr' for stating she believed in God at the moment of her death. This book shows her troubled past and her parents strength placing her on a path that helps turn her life around. Written by mother, I am honored to have been able to share Cassie's life and read of the courage of a woman grieving her daughter and trying to find ways to find some semblance of peace.

This a completely enjoyable children mystery. If found myself smiling through the book. The plot was well constructed and I would recommend it for 3rd - 6th grade target audience. It was a quick and fun read

  • One for Sorrow: A John the Eunuch Mystery
    • Rated 2 stars

The first half of the book dragged for me. The characters weren't well formed & the mystery itself didn't seem to be set up till 1/2 way through. Perhaps I'm wrong, I'm not much of a mystery fan and may not know what to look for. I did enjoy the historical aspect of the Mithra vs Christian religions flowing within the walls of the palace. The description of an ancient Roman city & its peoples were well done. I may have enjoyed it more if the story line had been more captivating for me.

What can i say that hasn't already been said? Loved it & wished it would never end] I hope there is a spin off with the werewolves. Maybe not, perhaps that might be too much of a good thing.
