I am a writer and professor who studied philosophy and who reads and writes constantly - so I would love to speak with others who are also interested in similar things and can discuss (which would be great) as well as discover new books, as i am a voracious reader and love to hear about writers - old and new - especially poetry, which has been... more »

Hey there...how are your books coming along? I wrote a paper this fall for grad school on Dylan's "With God On Our Side" and Newman's "Political Science," and I'm hoping to find more excuses to do similar things in the future. Luckily, I had a theory teacher who was flexible...

Anyway, hope you're doing well. I'll keep an eye out for the books...

Hi Sadira, just a stop to say hi and---wow how I have come to respect all philo professors. Been out awhile taking a couple of philo classes myself and what a TRIP-- better than any read I've ever had.:):) If more people got into philo they definitely wouldn't need drugs:):) Felt like such an "odd bird" out but passed with flying colors and picked up some wonderful reads. Thanks for the inspiration.

Haven't seen you around in ages -- hope it's because you're busy with the book! (Not that I've been around that much myself.)

Is The Lovely Bones really good? I have stayed away from it because I wasn't sure I'd like it.

    sadira...
thanks for the friend invite: gladly accepted! it would appear we don't (yet!) share a single book in common on our shelves, which i think is a good thing as that leaves much to be discussed (i haven't looked through your whole shelf, but i do actually have the collected poems of sylvia plath).

You can get the complete collection from the Lewis Carroll Society.

    An LC bio, hey?
You do know there are already plenty of them already? Morton Cohen's one is regarded as one of the definitive texts.

(What an unusual name is "Morton", anyway? lol)

I seeing Dylan (for the 3rd time in my life) on Oct 22 which is great but what's even better is Elvis Costello is opening the show w/ an acousical set. Yeah, I'm bragging.

Good for you with the photography. Digital has gotten so much better in the last few years that I find I actually prefer it to film. Shooting in raw format is like having each frame come with a big bag of skittles you can play around with in the editing suite of your choice.

I think I saw him standing back a ways looking at the menu of a salad bar I frequent. Nice high end healthy munchies. This was within the last few years maybe? Can't remember, but was in Manhattan. He was just doing his thing. That happens every now and again, you make eye contact with someone and they know you're trying to figure out which poster you remember them from in Times Square. One guy grinned at me once in the subway and goes "you've seen me naked." I had no idea what he meant, since I'd really just remembered him from a cafe and he looked sort of embarrassed. Later on I figured out what me meant. He was in the show Naked Boys Singing.

Hi, I'm getting ready to start on a D H Lawerrence kick in Nov. with his restored, Birds Beasts & Flowers coming out. Also ordered Rainbow, and Women in Love. Any thoughts on these, I'm not sure why I enjoy such controversial authors, lol. Also enjoy your sites, the editorial "on courage" was great, thanks.

Sorry it took so long. I don't log on as much as I should. Too many social networking sites. Thanks for the info. I've got the basic frame of the play down, just not sure how serious I want to treat the subject: Art and the artist. I always remember Dylan saying that the songs found him he didn't find the songs. I always found that very humble.

Stan Rice was able to capture the absolute joy in being desirous -- able to show a deeply tabooed emotion without resorting to the standby cliches. Hearing a few of them read made me an instant fan. Sometimes the writing is so creative and true it's almost euphoric just to read. No cigarettes required.

Great site. I enjoyed Madison and 35h. I think girls in the business world are often relegated to geisha like status. Strange that is is not at all as appealing as it sounds. I think I've also heard of Eels before. Not sure who mentioned it, but I'll have to pick up a copy. Bob Dylan was in a salad bar behind me once. I looked at him, knew he was famous, and completely blanked on who he was. I'll be very interested to read your biography on Lewis Carroll. That's bound to be fascinating.
