“ Manhood for Amateurs was great, but I was ready for a regular novel from Chabon. Then this became available and I was blown away again. Some of his essays are lists of writers I never heard of, but... ” (see full review)

jim now owns Surveillance.
jim has read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.
“ This book quickly grew on me. I immediately distrust anything with a 9/11 tie-in; will it always be "too soon"? And the inventive mind and viewpoint of Oskar seemed a little too much like The... ” (see full review)
jim now owns Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

“ All the local Florida color and zany characters of a Hiaasen novel, but in the end too many unlikeable low-lifes to wade through to the improbable Mad Mad World ending. Serge has his moments, but I... ” (see full review)

Hi Jim. I see that you posted comments for "Travels with Charlie". It's one of my favorite books from one of my favorite authors… Steinbeck worried that America was changing for the worse, so he and Charlie set out to see and to comment. That was 50 years ago; one wonders what Steinbeck would say today (or what Charlie would think about it).
Your wish is my command. I had them all written in a notebook so I had all the info at my fingertips.
"We are brothers" - where is it being sold?
Thanks - I see Grisham's books every time I'm in an airport, but never have cracked one yet. Maybe on my next trip. I'm reading some studies on Pius XII and Word War II at the moment. And… Oh yes, "To kill a mockingbird". Now that you remind me of it, I did read that book when I was in high school… I'll have to pick it up again sometime. Greetings from Niagara Falls: beautiful Fall Day with leaves just changing here. Ciao!
Hey Jim: notice you've been reading a lot of John Grisham lately. How do you like him? I see his books all the time, but haven't gotten into him yet. Where's a good place to start?
Hey Jim! so how is this "sabbath's theater"? Reviews are interesting, but I'm wondering what a real reader thinks about it. Sorry that I cannot be in Ohio in July. Ciao! Joe
Hey Jim! Thanks for the notes. Yes, I have read Steinbeck several times, and one of my biggest joys is still to bring people to Monterey and to introduce them to Steinbeck country… Am finishing off a few books now before the school year starts… and I got new glasses so it is more fun to be reading in these days :-) Ciao!Joe
Jim,I really enjoyed all of Robert Harris's books. I finished about a month ago "The Ghost" and thought that this one was his second best book. I recommend it to you. If you have not read it and want me to bring it to my mom's house in April I will give it to you. I think his best book is Fatherland, a what if Germany had won WWII. I also finished Pompeii which was a good book too. I think I like his books because they focus on historical situations for most of the plots. Let me know.
Best Baseball book? Of the ones I can recall right now, I would go w/ "What Baseball Means to Me", but I reserve the right to change this.
It will be fun to explore this virtual Bookclub. Although not all of my book selections were available - hmmm... Might have something to do with mainstream publishing.
