I'm a single mom of 14 year old girls. I've worked in music for over 20 years. Music and books are my first love. I think the reason is because I was very ill as a child and didn't learn how to read until the 3rd grade. Since then if I have 5 seconds to kill I'm reading (while listening to music of course)

I wonder if this is a book you might like? It's Canadian, so I'm guessing you probably won't know of all the musicians in it, but knowing that you like music, and I think you like memoirs/biography, as well? On a Cold Road by Dave Bidini. He is a Canadian musician, and though I've not read it, I believe it is part memoir of traveling across the country (Canada, of course), and part interviews with other musicians about their traveling/touring. It's currently being highlighted on CBC Radio, as part of a yearly book competition called Canada Reads, and I am thinking of you as they talk about it. :-)

No worries! I completely understand. As Gav said, we are all just slammed lately. We'll pick up where we left off when we can. And I too hope all runs smoothly and settles down for you. :)

...a Mardi Gras trip? Count me in! Hey, I wanted to let you know that I started "Savage Beauty" and I'm loving it! Up to chapter 2 only, but wow! What an intriguing family to have come out of stark old New England.

I've been reading more nonfiction than fiction lately too, though I don't think it's a summer thing. I think maybe because I feel my mortality, that I realize that there is still so much I need to know and learn and I get hungry for the facts instead of the imagined version. Does that make sense?

oh, me too. If I live to be 100 and read 22 hours, I think I might get close. I finish one book and find 4 others to add to the use

You know there are so many books on my TBR list, I have decided to live to 100. Of course, writers keep writing. But I think all of us are making a proper attempt! LOL

Thank you! The treatment is coming along, and my eyes are getting a little red, sore and puffy. I'm still able to focus though, so my crazy reading habits are not being interrupted. I'm reading this book that you might like: Art & Madness by Anne Richardson Roiphe - a memoir of growing up in the 50s and being 'addicted' to artists. Really smart (& stupid) stuff. Roiphe does a great job of retrospecting her actions and feelings at a time when she was way before the curve of the 60's social revolution. Big name dropper.

I'm not a very good listener. I think that my neurons are cross wired in my brain because I don't hear well if I don't have my glasses on. hahaha. funny, but true.
