Hey, nice to see you on my profile! I'm a girl who loves the Lord of lords and I really want to love Him with my whole heart. I realized that this world is not about me and that my life is very very very very...short compared to God's eternity. Everything is about GOD, so why should I think it's about me, my desires, my will, etc...? I DESIRE to... more »

  • E.M. Bounds: Man of Prayer
    • Rated 5 stars

This book is about E.M. Bounds, who was a prayer warrior and who had, humanly speaking, a hard time on this earth. His life can in some ways be compared to Job's life, because he lost everything early in his life. He was imprisoned more than twice, His wife and then two sons died and he was like an outcast. I was very motivated and encouraged by his story, because in spite of all these problems he had a close relationship with God, woke up very early in the morning, lived by faith and was always ready to help the poor with anything they could help. I was encouraged by the fact that he said money corrupts many people and to show the believers that something is wrong in the church and that he doesn't rely on the money, he gave up his service as a preacher. So he lost his salary and any hope to have a good pension, but when his wife with five children asked what they'll eat, he answered with something like: "If we're doing God's will, then even ravens will feed us." Amazing what a faith he had. Then there was another think which struck me: he once took his son on a mission field to preach, but they didn't have enough money, so when they were in the train and the controller came and he told him, they don't have enough money. Bounds told him that if the money is over, the controller should put them out, even if it's on a field (because there's the place where God wants them). A man heard him tell this and paid for their trip. That was inspiring... I would recommend this book because it's a great testimony of a man of prayer.

  • Power Through Prayer: To The Men and Women Who Want to Experience Power From On High
    • Rated 4 stars

E.M. Bounds was an unwearying man of prayer, whose words are still heard nowadays with genuineness, passion and conviction. These sincere words inspire and motivate the reader to keep on praying without ceasing. He especially writes to preachers, who have to stay on their knees much more as on their feet preaching (as he says it). He says that prayer is the preachers most powerful weapon, because powerful prayer and powerful preaching are inseparable. The act of prayer is focusing on God and it's communicating/ being with a Person, that is GOD.

  • Jesus Manifesto
    • Rated 5 stars

Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola have a simple message, that is the Jesus Manifesto, which means to "fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith..." (Heb. 12:2). Jesus Christ is all in all. It's a book which is about nothing but Jesus, that's how our 'books' (lives) should be like, pointing radically back to this Person, who made us right with God (Romans 5:1). These two authors remind the readers of the fact that Jesus isn't found only in the center of all things, but along the corners and borders, too. They believe there are three attributes present in every revival: a rediscovery of the living Word, the Scriptures and its authority, of the living Christ and His supremacy and of the Spirit's gifts and power to manifest Jesus in the context of that culture. Above everything else, every Christian has the "task" to know Jesus, out of which will come to love, delight, adore, proclaim, worship and manifest Him. It was one of the books I wanted to continue until the last dot.

  • The Lost Art of Intercession Expanded Edition: Restoring the Power and Passion of the Watch of the Lord
    • Rated 5 stars

James Goll describes based on Scripture how to stand in the gap for our generation through prayer and intercession. His call of return is for the Christians, who lost the power and passion of a heart on fire for Jesus. He relates the Moravian movement and the prayer warriors who gathered for prayer and intercession for 100 years 24/7 in Herrnhut, Germany. Their prayers and commitments led to sending out missionaries all over the earth. Then he leads the readers to know how to intercede and intervene before our loving Father. Using Scriptures he outlines the steps, which are: restoring the fire on the altar and the priestly purpose of intercession before the Most High.

  • Stress Less
    • Rated 3 stars

This book has a distinctly Christian focus and uses Christian references including Scripture very frequently in the course of providing guidance, but it mixes earthly things with biblical ones. It basically tells you to eat balanced meals, with the advice of your health care and exercise. I pretty enjoyed reading the book at first, but then he started to speak about yoga and eastern ways. This book is quite misleading, I don't know if I'll read another book from Don Colbert.

  • Hinds' Feet on High Places
    • Rated 5 stars

The story is about a girl named Much Afraid who lives in the Valley of Humiliation and has a crooked mouth and crooked feet. She belongs to the Fearing family, but she loves the Chief Shepherd with all of her heart and desires for deliverance. Her family planned for her to marry her cousin Craven Fear, but Much Afraid doesn't want to. The Chief Shepherd tells her that she can have that which she longs for: to have "hind's feet" and "leap upon the High Places" with Him. She chooses to go with the Shepherd, but first He must place the seed of love in her heart. To reach the High Places, the Shepherd gives Much Afraid two companions to help her along the way. I really like the book because it contains a picture of the Christian life, that following Christ means dying to self to live for Him, and describes the deepest longings and fears of our hearts in following God- following Him when we can't see ahead of us, when we feel like we're going in circles, when we feel like He is not taking us where we want to go, and how following Him can mean laying down the deepest desires of our hearts just because God asks us to, and we know Him to be good and loving. It is a love story between Much Afraid and her Shepherd. A God who calls her to a path that is filled with sorrow and suffering that take her to a deeper place of dependence on Him. Learning to give your entire life to Jesus is hard but the reward of knowing Him is more amazing than anything you could ever want or desire. I'll surely read this book again.

  • The Practice of the Presence of God
    • Rated 5 stars

This short book written by brother Lawrence is a very helpful book with simple steps. Anyone who loves God and wants to find more out of the simple things in his spiritual life will find this book very refreshing, up-lifting and strengthening. I enjoyed how he wrote about his relationship with God and how he lived with the knowledge of the ceaseless Presence of God. Fascinating...

  • Love and War
    • Rated 5 stars

Perhaps if I would've been married then I would've rated this as a favorite. This book is really an eye-opener to what a marriage really is about. I like John and Stasi Eldredge's openness and sincerity about their struggles and outcomes. The main idea in this book is that a couple is living in a love story in the midst of war. They describe how every person takes its brokenness into the marriage and how God uses that to transform them. Both remind the readers that they have an enemy and it isn't the spouse. And when you realize that, you can use unity in prayer against this enemy, which will make him tremble! I learned that the Bible starts with a marriage and ends with a marriage. One which is earthly (between Adam and Eve), temporal and far from perfect, and the other which is everlasting (between Jesus and His bride), eternal and perfect. It's a great book... with ups and downs and stories of other marriages.

  • Longing for Eden: Embracing God's Vision in Your Marriage
    • Rated 5 stars

This book gives a great insight into the marriage- life. Marriage has eternal weight and is a gift of God to awaken our longing for more of Him. I really like how Mike Rizzo tells that marriage "is not a lifelong attraction of two individuals to each other but a call for two people to witness together to God's love." Hosea 2:19-20 was like an oil poured upon my heart as I was reading this book. Marriage is a fore-taste of our desire to see our Lover face to face. Another thing I've took to my heart is: "If you want to DO more for Jesus, stay single; if you want to BE more like Jesus get married." I really learned a lot of new things, i.e. the eight budding virtues of the bride from Song of Songs 4:1-5 and the scene of the two disciples on the Emmaus road seen as a marriage. The more we die to ourselves the more the needs of a marriage will be met. It's really all about God's glory in the end!

  • The Usborne little book of birds
    • Rated 4 stars

An interesting little book about birds: how they live, look like, fly, etc. A cute boy bought it after he asked me what animals I like, now he's also interested in birds. I'm tutoring this little fellow and he's very smart (he's reading a lot). So this book is informative and very interesting!
