Hi! I have started a group to discuss a book titled That's My Son: How Moms can influence Boys to become Men of Character. Since I am becoming a mom for the first time and my goal is to get some helpful feedback to use and share with others who feel the same way. I would like to invite those who own or whom have stated they've read this book. If you are interested the group name is "That's My Son", Thank you for your time!
I may come back in. If I see more involvement from members, but I know that depends upon me showing up, too. Did you get an answer about the quality books available for your two-year-old? My favorites are by Lynley Dodd. Come back and browse the shelves of http://www.shelfari.com/groups/26189/lists/read. I wish that Shelfari had a way so I could group the books by age.
Hi, Rose. Sorry I don't have any ideas for Christ centered kids' books as I'm not Christian. When my kids were toddlers, they always sat still for Dr. Seuss, which is both rhyming and nonsense, so that doesn't help you out, either! Some gorgeous books they did like were Animalia, Jungle Drums, The Water Hole, and Uno's Garden by Graeme Base. I still like to read those for their stunning art. I hope you're able to find something that works!
Thank you so much! I'll be very honest, I have no idea what I'm even looking for when it comes to Bibles- I'm used to the KJV, but I really disliked reading from it. The language was great for the 1700's- but not so much for the modern day!
I don't really know who I would trust with a translation- I know nothing about the people who translate them or what the big ones are besides the ones you mentioned. And I don't have anyone to talk about passages with- I grew up outside of a church because my parents didn't find one in the area we moved to that they approved of.
What are the ones that you like, and why? Are there different benefits to different translations?
For the commentary- that means a study Bible, right?
Oh! Geez, I misread what you wrote! I thought you said "at first I was the owner"! Well, I definitely saw some of your posts when I was reading old threads (I was trying to find out if someone had asked how to pick out a Bible- I've just moved out of my home, and the only Bible we had there was the huge KJV family Bible).
Oh! Okay. ... OH! Now I know who you were!
I see what you're saying. I'm not familiar with how it was before I joined (I joined this March). I know that recently we had a big discussion on an anime and how Christian-friendly it was before one of the members decided to watch it, but I don't see that a whole lot.
Heya! It was really cool to read that you're both a Christian and someone who loves anime and manga. I have to ask- have you ever heard of the Christian Anime Alliance? I'm a member, and it's a very active forum. We all enjoy reading anime together, watching anime together, and discussing various aspects of them through the lens of our faith.... and by how much we enjoy them :) In any case, I hope you check us out sometime!
