I am a full time college student. I love myriad types of books including satire, fantasy, science fiction, manga, old-fashioned literature, and much more. My favorite authors are probably Bradbury and Vonnegut, but I am also a big fan of Orwell, Adams, Poe, Rowling, and Huxley. I HATE A Separate Peace, and I absolutely despise Emily Dickinson and Herman Melville. Fantasy novels and manga are my guilty pleasures, my fantasy collection consisting mainly of Raymond E. Feist and Mercedes Lackey.
I am studying fiction writing in school in hopes of improving my craft enough to one day be something I would be proud to publish. When I am not reading or writing, I am singing and hope to one day sing as a career. I am very socially liberal (ie- thumbs up for gay marriage and freedom of religion and all that jazz). I have no tolerance for hypocracy and ignorance. (I also have no tolerance for rap and country music.) I love rock and progressive metal, classical, and broadway.
Please do not be fooled by some of the books in my library. I have tried to include every book I have read (that I can remember- I know that I am missing quite a few still). My top ten books are a much better indicator of what I enjoy reading. If you do not like any of those books, it is likely we will not get along. I enjoy reading more than just about anything, and good stories with muti-layered plotlines and deep characters married with extensive vocabulary and well-written, structured sentences thrill me more than just about anything else. I am a grammar freak, so if a book has very poor grammar, I have great difficulty getting into it. If a book has excellent grammar, however, I find it much easier to forgive a mediocre plot.
I would like to ask that people refrain from recommending books to me unless I have asked them to do so. I find that I am always disappointed not only in the book but the person who recommended it as well. For instance, I was told by many people that the Da Vinci Code was the perfect book for me, that I would absolutely love it, etc. All of those people were WRONG. In fact, I hated that book and found it to have an insanely predictable plot. This made me angry at the people who told me to read it. So, I repeat, do NOT tell me to read something unless you are CERTAIN it is something I would enjoy reading or I ask for your opinion. Wow. That sounded rather mean. I'm not mean; I swear! I am just a picky reader and do not enjoy being conned into reading books that suck.
That's all I can think of at the moment. I'm sure I will find more things to put here later, but if you actually made it this far, thank you for reading my strange rant.
